demostrar la viabilidad de la fusi\u00f3n nuclear como fuente de energ\u00eda alternativa a la f\u00f3sil, confirm\u00f3 hoy su objetivo de llevar a cabo su primer ensayo, bautizado como Primer Plasma, para 2025.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>La reuni\u00f3n de su consejo, inaugurada ayer y clausurada hoy en la localidad francesa de Saint Paul Lez Durance, en la Costa Azul, valid\u00f3 ese programa basado en el buen avance de las obras, que llevan el 55 % construido.<\/p>\n<p>El ITER, uno de los mayores proyectos cient\u00edficos del mundo, pretende reproducir las reacciones de fusi\u00f3n que tienen lugar en el Sol y demostrar que la energ\u00eda de fusi\u00f3n es cient\u00edfica y tecnol\u00f3gicamente posible.<\/p>\n<div id=\"smartIntxt\">\u00a0Su nombre significa camino en lat\u00edn y es el acr\u00f3nimo en ingl\u00e9s de reactor termonuclear experimental internacional.<\/div>\n<p>Para producir la fusi\u00f3n at\u00f3mica, el combustible debe alcanzar temperaturas de unos 100 millones de grados cent\u00edgrados en el reactor experimental, lo que sit\u00faa a la materia en un estado similar al gaseoso, denominado plasma.<\/p>\n<p>La dificultad, seg\u00fan los expertos, consiste en conseguir el confinamiento del plasma durante un tiempo suficientemente largo con un volumen discreto como para poder generar energ\u00eda.<\/p>\n<p>El consejo destac\u00f3 hoy en un comunicado que ha habido \u201cprogresos sustanciales\u201d en la fabricaci\u00f3n de componentes tecnol\u00f3gicamente complejos, como los poderosos imanes superconductores (conocidos como bobinas de campo toroidal), que son los que confinan el plasma supercaliente.<\/p>\n<p>Asimismo, anunci\u00f3 que en la reuni\u00f3n se aprobaron mejoras en la estrategia de construcci\u00f3n, que optimizar\u00e1n la instalaci\u00f3n de los equipos en el edificio del tokamak, la m\u00e1quina experimental concebida para explotar la energ\u00eda de la fusi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Esa c\u00e1mara de vac\u00edo est\u00e1 previsto que tenga 30 metros de alto y otros tantos de di\u00e1metro, un peso de 23.000 toneladas y, albergar\u00e1 840 metros c\u00fabicos de plasma que alcanzar\u00e1 una temperatura de 150 millones de grados.<\/p>\n<p>Europa, China, Jap\u00f3n, la India, Corea del Sur, Rusia y EE.UU., que representan el 80 % del PIB mundial y la mitad de la poblaci\u00f3n de la Tierra, participan en este proyecto, tasado en al menos 12.900 millones de euros (14.900 millones de d\u00f3lares), la mitad correspondiente a los pa\u00edses del Viejo Continente.<\/p>\n<p>El objetivo, seg\u00fan sus impulsores, es lograr una energ\u00eda limpia, abundante, segura y barata para dar respuesta al desaf\u00edo energ\u00e9tico del futuro.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fuente:
