Esto con el objetivo de que puedan reproducirse con otros miembros de su especie y que su descendencia no propague la enfermedad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El\u00a0paludismo, o malaria, es una enfermedad potencialmente mortal causada por par\u00e1sitos que se transmiten al ser humano por la picadura de mosquitos infectados. Es una de las enfermedades m\u00e1s mortales del mundo, enferma m\u00e1s de 300 millones de personas y mata a m\u00e1s de 600.000 cada a\u00f1o, la mayor\u00eda de ellos ni\u00f1os.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A pesar de los esfuerzos mundiales generalizados, los par\u00e1sitos de la malaria se han vuelto m\u00e1s resistentes a los medicamentos, y la detecci\u00f3n epidemiol\u00f3gica eficiente y el diagn\u00f3stico precoz son muy dif\u00edciles de conseguir en los pa\u00edses m\u00e1s afectados por la enfermedad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En el estudio los investigadores dise\u00f1aron un prototipo de sistema accionado por los\u00a0genes CRISPR\/Cas9\u00a0los cuales son capaces de introducir y propagar un gen antiparasitario entre los mosquitos Anopheles stephensi, el cual\u00a0act\u00faa sobre dos prote\u00ednas clave producidas durante la fase infecciosa del par\u00e1sito de la malaria Plasmodium falciparum.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En los resultados se consigui\u00f3 que el\u00a0gen antiparasitario\u00a0se propagara en una conversi\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica espec\u00edfica con una eficiencia de m\u00e1s del 98 %.\u00a0\u201cEsto nos abre la puerta a una promesa real de que esta t\u00e9cnica pueda ser adaptada para eliminar la malaria\u201d,\u00a0dijo Anthony James, uno de los autores del estudio.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cEs un paso significativo. Sabemos c\u00f3mo funcionan estos genes. Aunque los mosquitos que hemos creado no son el \u00faltimo paso, ahora conocemos esta tecnolog\u00eda que nos permite crear de forma eficiente grades poblaciones\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La malaria se contagia a trav\u00e9s de la picadura de mosquitos hembra infectados en seres humanos.\u00a0El objetivo del proyecto es liberar mosquitos gen\u00e9ticamente modificados para que puedan aparearse con mosquitos salvajes y que sus genes bloqueadores de la malaria entren en su reserva gen\u00e9tica y finalmente desborden a la poblaci\u00f3n, impidiendo la posibilidad de que estas especies puedan infectar a personas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La\u00a0Organizaci\u00f3n Mundial de la Salud\u00a0estima que habr\u00e1 214 millones de casos de malaria en todo el mundo en 2015 y 438.000 muertes, la mayor\u00eda de ellas en \u00c1frica Subsahariana.
