Estas alteraciones se dan con mayor frecuencia en la vejez.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span>Pero \u00bfPor qu\u00e9 cuando una persona envejece, en ella aumenta el riego de tener m\u00e1s problemas coronarios?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Al envejecer se incrementa el riesgo de sufrir enfermedades coronarias en parte debido a la larga exposici\u00f3n a factores de riesgo como hipercolesterolemia, hipertensi\u00f3n, tabaquismo y obesidad. Sin embargo, muchas personas sin estos factores de riesgo sufren ataques card\u00edacos. El envejecimiento sigue siendo un fuerte predictor de la enfermedad card\u00edaca.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Ahora, en un reciente estudio publicado en el\u00a0<em>New England Journal of Medicine<\/em>, un grupo de investigadores nos ayudan a comprender por qu\u00e9 al llegar a la tercera edad aumenta el riesgo de parecer enfermedades coronarias. De acuerdo con los investigadores, la acumulaci\u00f3n de c\u00e9lulas madre mutadas en la medula \u00f3sea es un factor muy importante para que una persona padezca problemas coronarios. A este proceso de acumulaci\u00f3n se le ha dado el nombre de CHIP (por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s Clonal Hematopoiesis of Indeterminated Potential); el evento molecular incluye una serie de mutaciones que parecen acumularse en un grupo espec\u00edfico de genes asociados a la inflamaci\u00f3n y al c\u00e1ncer, y se ha demostrado que la obesidad y el tabaquismo juegan un papel importante en estos eventos.<\/span><\/p>\n<div data-align=\"none\" data-oembed=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=B_hpnatHTX0\" data-oembed_provider=\"youtube\" data-resizetype=\"noresize\" class=\"embeddedContent oembed-provider- oembed-provider-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"425\" height=\"349\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/B_hpnatHTX0?wmode=transparent&amp;jqoemcache=1lunr\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><em>En este video se describe el proceso CHIP<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span>Por otra parte, los investigadores tambi\u00e9n demostraron que el evento CHIP est\u00e1 relacionado \u00edntimamente con la edad del individuo, ya que en el 10% de la poblaci\u00f3n mayor a 70 a\u00f1os se presentan estas mutaciones.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>La poblaci\u00f3n de estudio en este proyecto incluy\u00f3 a 4726 personas con enfermedad coronaria y 3529 controles sanos, a los que se secuenci\u00f3 el DNA de c\u00e9lulas sangu\u00edneas para detectar mutaciones CHIP. Los resultados fueron sorprendentes: de acuerdo con los investigadores, las personas con estas mutaciones CHIP ten\u00edan casi el doble de riesgo de enfermedad coronaria que las personas sin mutaci\u00f3n. Tambi\u00e9n se observ\u00f3 que los portadores de mutaciones CHIP ten\u00edan 4 veces m\u00e1s riesgo de presentar un infarto agudo al miocardio (IAM).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Con estos resultados, est\u00e1 claro el por qu\u00e9 muchas personas adultas sufren este tipo de patolog\u00edas (sin considerar factores secundarios, como estr\u00e9s, ansiedad, conducta social&#8230;etc.), que con frecuencia, son temas relevanes en cardiolog\u00eda.
