Un otro id\u00e9ntico que habita nuestro mismo mundo y con el cual no deber\u00edamos encontrarnos jam\u00e1s puesto que ser\u00eda sin\u00f3nimo de muerte. El mito, que ha dado lugar a muchas replicas literarias (desde el c\u00e9lebre Doctor Jeckyll de Robert Louis Stevenson al hombre duplicado de Jos\u00e9 Saramago), es pervertido en la ida de Cucchietti en tanto su intenci\u00f3n no es comunicar el cese de la vida, sino su prolongaci\u00f3n. Porque lo que buscan en su equipo a trav\u00e9s de la capacidad de c\u00e1lculo del Marenostrum IV es la posibilidad de simular un cuerpo humano completo.<\/p>\n<p>Instalado en el Barcelona Supercomputing Center \u2013 Centro Nacional de Supercomputaci\u00f3n, el Marenostrum IV es el tercer superordenador m\u00e1s potente de Europa y el n\u00famero trece del mundo. Desde su instalaci\u00f3n el a\u00f1o pasado, dedica 11,1 Petaflops a la producci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica, es decir, que puede ejecutar 11.100 billones de operaciones por segundo. La cifra que escapa a nuestra comprensi\u00f3n por lo que representa, no es sin embargo suficiente para conseguir lo que Cucchietti y su equipo persiguen: \u201cHay algunos centros especializados en simular huesos de las piernas, otros en el coraz\u00f3n, otros en los ri\u00f1ones, algunos otros en el aparato respiratorio. El conjunto de todos los \u00f3rganos y formar un cuerpo humano completo es algo que est\u00e1 m\u00e1s en el futuro. Probablemente estemos hablando de cinco o diez a\u00f1os, tal vez veinte hasta que todos los \u00f3rganos no solo est\u00e9n simulados independientemente bien, sino que adem\u00e1s luego podamos incorporarlos y simularlos en conjunto\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>La complejidad de nuestro organismo y la precisi\u00f3n con la que funcionan en coordinaci\u00f3n todos nuestros \u00f3rganos, es lo que hace que sea tan dif\u00edcil conseguir una simulaci\u00f3n exacta. El objetivo final de este supersoftware es facilitar a los m\u00e9dicos una herramienta perfecta para saber, por ejemplo, c\u00f3mo reacciona el cuerpo humano a un medicamento. Cada paciente es distinto y en el futuro deber\u00edamos ser capaces de aportar un tratamiento completamente personalizado y a medida.
