Pero,<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>\u00bfsabes c\u00f3mo funcionan las c\u00e9lulas o celdas solares?<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00bfC\u00f3mo son capaces de generar electricidad? Te lo contamos.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>El sol es la energ\u00eda m\u00e1s accesible en la tierra, pero para poder convertirla en electricidad necesitamos un elemento tambi\u00e9n muy abundante, la arena.<\/p>\n<p>Es necesario<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>convertir la arena a cristales de silicio con una pureza del 99,999 %<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>si queremos usarla en la fabricaci\u00f3n de c\u00e9lulas solares fotovoltaicas. Para lograrlo, la arena tiene que someterse a un complejo proceso de purificaci\u00f3n para conseguir silicio en bruto (98% pureza).<\/p>\n<p>Este silicio en bruto se convierte en una forma compuesta de silicio gaseoso, despu\u00e9s se mezcla con hidr\u00f3geno para obtener silicio policristalino altamente purificado. El proceso se complica un poco m\u00e1s en caso de querer obtener silicio monocristalino, m\u00e1s caro de producir aunque tambi\u00e9n de mejor rendimiento.<\/p>\n<p>Este silicio<span>\u00a0<\/span>policristalino o monocristalino<span>\u00a0<\/span>se moldea para fabricar obleas. Estas obleas son el n\u00facleo central de las c\u00e9lulas solares fotovoltaicas.<\/p>\n<p>En esta estructura los \u00e1tomos de silicio est\u00e1n unidos entre si. Sabemos que los electrones dentro de esta estructura no tienen libertad de movimiento.<\/p>\n<p>Si inyectamos a la estructura \u00e1tomos de f\u00f3sforo de 5 electrones de valencia, dopaje tipo N, cuando la luz solar alcanza a los electrones, estos ganan energ\u00eda fot\u00f3nica, que los hace capaces de moverse libremente. Sin embargo, este movimiento aleatorio de los electrones no produce ninguna corriente a trav\u00e9s de la carga.<\/p>\n<p>Para que los electrones se muevan unidireccionalmente, se necesita una fuerza motriz. Una forma sencilla de producir esta fuerza motriz es una uni\u00f3n P-N.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00bfC\u00f3mo una uni\u00f3n P-N produce la fuerza motriz?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Si inyectamos boro con 3 electrones de valencia en el silicio puro habr\u00e1 un agujero para cada \u00e1tomo. A esto se le denomina dopaje tipo P. Si los dos tipos de materiales dopados se unen, algunos electrones del lado N ir\u00e1n a la regi\u00f3n P y llenar\u00e1n los agujeros disponibles. As\u00ed se forma una<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>regi\u00f3n de agotamiento<\/strong>, donde no hay electrones libres ni agujeros.<\/p>\n<p>Gracias a la migraci\u00f3n de electrones, el lado N se carga positivamente y el lado P se carga negativamente, lo que formar\u00e1 un campo el\u00e9ctrico entre las cargas. Este campo el\u00e9ctrico produce la fuerza motriz necesaria.<\/p>\n<p>Cuando la luz incide sobre la regi\u00f3n N, penetra hasta la regi\u00f3n de agotamiento, donde se producen electrones y agujeros que son repelidos hacia la regi\u00f3n N y P respectivamente gracias al campo el\u00e9ctrico.
