Lo primero que se vendr\u00e1 a tu mente ser\u00e1 una habitaci\u00f3n totalmente cerrada, sin posibilidad alguna de que entren los sonidos ni tampoco aire ni luz. Pues bien, ahora un grupo de investigadores de la Universidad de Boston parecen haber dado con el material para que las habitaciones del futuro sean m\u00e1s silenciosas, pero sin renunciar a la luminosidad ni a la ventilaci\u00f3n. Todo ello ser\u00eda gracias al \u201cmetamaterial ac\u00fastico\u201d, como lo han definido en el trabajo que han publicado recientemente en<span>\u00a0<\/span>la revista Physical Review B.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Para lograrlo, lo primero que hicieron fue calcular las dimensiones y las especificaciones que un material deber\u00eda tener para poder reflejar las ondas de sonido entrantes, sin que ello pudiera bloquear que hicieran lo propio el aire o la luz. El siguiente paso fue imprimir en 3D el material en forma de rosquilla y lo unieron a un extremo de una tuber\u00eda de PVC, cuyo otro extremo se conect\u00f3 a un altavoz. De esta forma pudieron comprobar que al lanzar una nota aguda desde el altavoz, se bloqueaba el 94 % del sonido que entraba por la tuber\u00eda.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;El momento en que colocamos y quitamos el silenciador, fue literalmente la diferencia entre el d\u00eda y la noche&#8221;, asegura el investigador Jacob Nikolajczyk. Durante meses hab\u00edan comprobado que este modelo funcionaba en los ensayos que hab\u00edan realizado en el ordenador, &#8220;pero una cosa es ver los niveles de presi\u00f3n de sonido modelados en una computadora, y otra es escuchar su impacto&#8221;, comenta.<\/p>\n<p>Estos investigadores ya imagen multitud de aplicaciones para su \u201cmetamaterial ac\u00fastico\u201d, y aseguran que no se limitar\u00e1 solamente al objeto circular que han utilizado para realizar las comprobaciones. &#8220;La idea es que ahora podemos dise\u00f1ar matem\u00e1ticamente un objeto que puede bloquear los sonidos de cualquier cosa&#8221;, dice el investigador Xin Zhang.
