Dow Chemical es uno de los principales productores de pl\u00e1stico en el mundo. Ahora est\u00e1 usando envases pl\u00e1sticos reciclados para la construcci\u00f3n de carreteras.<\/h6>\n

Dow Chemical es una de las principales empresas en el sector del pl\u00e1stico. En el a\u00f1o 2017,\u00a0comenz\u00f3 a construir\u00a0carreteras con pl\u00e1stico reciclado.\u00a0La primera prueba la hizo en Indonesia, el segundo pa\u00eds que m\u00e1s contamina los oc\u00e9anos con este tipo de residuos.<\/h6>\n
El gobierno indonesio estableci\u00f3 una meta de\u00a0reducci\u00f3n\u00a0de desechos en el oc\u00e9ano de un\u00a070% para el a\u00f1o 2025.\u00a0Dow Chemical\u00a0ofreci\u00f3 asesor\u00eda\u00a0t\u00e9cnica\u00a0para la reutilizaci\u00f3n de pl\u00e1stico en\u00a0carreteras.<\/h6>\n
\u00bfC\u00f3mo se construye una carretera con pl\u00e1stico?<\/h6>\n
Los desechos pl\u00e1sticos se seleccionan, limpian y trituran. Normalmente se usa\u00a0el\u00a0polipropileno, el polietileno y el PVC, que luego se mezclan con el bet\u00fan, la sustancia tradicional utilizada para la pavimentaci\u00f3n de carreteras y la construcci\u00f3n de tejados.<\/h6>\n
Despu\u00e9s de calentar la mezcla, se extiende de la misma manera que el asfalto convencional.<\/h6>\n
La empresa decidi\u00f3 experimentar en Estados Unidos. Construy\u00f3 dos carreteras privadas en sus instalaciones de Freeport, Texas, utilizando\u00a01.700 libras de pl\u00e1stico reciclado.<\/h6>\n
Poco despu\u00e9s, la empresa ayud\u00f3 a dos ciudades de la India, Bangalore y Pune. Utilizaron\u00a0m\u00e1s de\u00a0100 toneladas de pl\u00e1stico reciclado\u00a0para construir 16.000 kil\u00f3metros de carreteras con la nueva mezcla.<\/h6>\n
Estas experiencias no son nuevas, hemos hablado en ecoinventos del\u00a0ingeniero brit\u00e1nico usa pl\u00e1stico reciclado\u00a0para crear asfalto 60% m\u00e1s resistente y barato, o como\u00a0Australia est\u00e1 pavimentando calles con t\u00f3ner\u00a0de impresora reciclados.<\/h6>\n

Ventajas de carreteras hechas con pl\u00e1stico.<\/h6>\n

  • \n
    Son m\u00e1s\u00a0resistentes a la corrosi\u00f3n\u00a0por el clima y el paso de los veh\u00edculos.<\/h6>\n<\/li>\n
  • \n
    Duran\u00a0tres veces m\u00e1s\u00a0que las carreteras convencionales.<\/h6>\n<\/li>\n
  • \n
    Soportan mejor temperaturas extremadamente altas y bajas.<\/h6>\n<\/li>\n
  • \n
    Son mucho m\u00e1s baratas en su construcci\u00f3n.<\/h6>\n<\/li>\n
  • \n
    Tienen un coste de mantenimiento m\u00e1s bajo,\u00a0pues hay menos erosi\u00f3n y necesidad de reparaciones.<\/h6>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
    Desventajas.<\/h6>\n
    El proceso para calentar el pl\u00e1stico para hacer carreteras\u00a0puede liberar qu\u00edmicos t\u00f3xicos a la atm\u00f3sfera, lo que puede contribuir a agravar la contaminaci\u00f3n de ciertas zonas. Sin embargo, para que esto ocurra deben llegar a\u00a0doscientos grados Fahrenheit.<\/h6>\n
    En la India dise\u00f1aron\u00a0un m\u00e9todo para reducir el uso del bet\u00fan en el asfaltado. Para ello utilizan el pl\u00e1stico en estado l\u00edquido,\u00a0ya que tiene propiedades similares para generar el conglomerado necesario.<\/h6>\n
