Pfizer opt\u00f3 por no seguir investigando y no hizo p\u00fablicos sus datos.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Enbrel, un f\u00e1rmaco biol\u00f3gico inyectable, es relativamente antiguo, con la aprobaci\u00f3n de la FDA para la artritis reumatoide en 1998. Tambi\u00e9n se aprob\u00f3 para tratar la psoriasis. Desde hace 20 a\u00f1os, Pfizer tiene la exclusividad de la patente.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>De acuerdo a una investigaci\u00f3n hecha por<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>The Washington Post,<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>los investigadores de<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>la divisi\u00f3n de inflamaci\u00f3n e inmunolog\u00eda de la compa\u00f1\u00eda instaron a Pfizer a realizar un ensayo cl\u00ednico en miles de pacientes, que estimaron que costar\u00eda 80 millones de d\u00f3lares<\/strong>, para ver si la se\u00f1al contenida en los datos era real, es decir, si pod\u00eda prevenir el Alzheimer.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cEnbrel podr\u00eda potencialmente prevenir, tratar y retardar de forma segura la enfermedad de Alzheimer\u201d, se puede leer en un documento interno de la farmac\u00e9utica que fue preparado para una presentaci\u00f3n a un comit\u00e9 interno de Pfizer en febrero de 2018.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Durante los siguientes tres a\u00f1os al descubrimiento, Pfizer investig\u00f3 los efectos del Enbrel y lleg\u00f3 a la conclusi\u00f3n de que no era prometedora \u201cpara la prevenci\u00f3n del Alzheimer porque la droga no llega directamente al tejido cerebral\u201d y consider\u00f3 \u201cque la probabilidad de un ensayo cl\u00ednico exitoso\u201d era baja.<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>Una sinopsis de sus hallazgos estad\u00edsticos preparados para publicaci\u00f3n externa, dice, no cumpli\u00f3 con sus \u201cest\u00e1ndares cient\u00edficos rigurosos\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pfizer se ha negado a hacer p\u00fablicos los datos de su investigaci\u00f3n y no s\u00f3lo eso, en 2018 anunci\u00f3 que cerrar\u00eda su divisi\u00f3n de neurolog\u00eda, donde se exploraron los tratamientos de la enfermedad de Alzheimer y despidi\u00f3 a 300 empleados.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cPositivos o negativos, son datos que nos dan m\u00e1s informaci\u00f3n para tomar decisiones mejor informadas\u201d, explicaba Keenan Walker, profesor asistente de medicina en la Universidad Johns Hopkins.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>The Washington Post<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>afirma que un ensayo cl\u00ednico para probar la hip\u00f3tesis tomar\u00eda cuatro a\u00f1os e involucrar\u00eda de 3 mil a 4 mil pacientes, de acuerdo con el documento de Pfizer que recomend\u00f3 un ensayo.
