Causa fatiga y somnolencia durante el d\u00eda, y tambi\u00e9n aumenta el riesgo de desarrollar diabetes y enfermedades cardiovasculares.<\/p>\n<p>Afecta a uno de cada cinco adultos, especialmente a los hombres y personas con sobrepeso, y si bien puede tratarse con bastante eficacia, muchas de las personas que sufren la enfermedad siguen sin ser diagnosticadas.<\/p>\n<p>Este es el problema que un equipo internacional liderado por el Instituto de Tecnolog\u00eda Technion de Israel deseaba resolver. Su trabajo, recientemente publicado en EClinicalMedicine, result\u00f3 en una tecnolog\u00eda basada en inteligencia artificial que detecta la apnea del sue\u00f1o.<\/p>\n<p>La tecnolog\u00eda que desarroll\u00f3 el Dr. Joachim Behar y su equipo se basa en datos de 887 sujetos de la poblaci\u00f3n adulta general en Sao Paulo, Brasil. La tecnolog\u00eda recibi\u00f3 estos datos y, utilizando inteligencia artificial, logr\u00f3 diferenciar entre quienes padecen apnea obstructiva del sue\u00f1o y quienes no la tienen.<\/p>\n<p>Hasta la fecha, el diagn\u00f3stico de la apnea se realizaba en laboratorios de sue\u00f1o o con equipos de monitoreo en el hogar, dos m\u00e9todos que son costosos y no son de f\u00e1cil acceso para la poblaci\u00f3n en riesgo.
