La Academia de las Ciencias de Suecia anunci\u00f3 este lunes a los estadounidenses\u00a0<\/span>Paul Milgrom y Robert Wilson como ganadores del Premio Nobel de Econom\u00eda<\/b>, por sus investigaciones sobre la teor\u00eda de subastas.<\/p>\n

Las autoridades suecas sostuvieron que Milgrom y Wilson, de 72 y 83 a\u00f1os, mejoraron la\u00a0<\/span>teor\u00eda de subastas<\/b>,\u00a0<\/span>una rama de la teor\u00eda de juegos<\/b>, utilizada en la asignaci\u00f3n de frecuencias de telecomunicaciones, como la 5G. \u201cNo solo clarificaron c\u00f3mo funcionan las subastas y por qu\u00e9 los compradores se comportan de cierta forma, sino que usaron sus descubrimientos te\u00f3ricos para inventar formatos completamente nuevos para la venta de bienes y servicios\u201d, destac\u00f3 la Academia.<\/p>\n

Wilson demostr\u00f3 por qu\u00e9 los ofertantes racionales tienden a colocar sus ofertas por debajo de su mejor estimaci\u00f3n del valor com\u00fan: les preocupa la maldici\u00f3n del ganador, es decir, pagar demasiado y salir perdiendo. Por su parte, Milgrom, formul\u00f3 una teor\u00eda m\u00e1s general de las subastas que no s\u00f3lo permite valores comunes, sino tambi\u00e9n valores privados que var\u00edan de un licitador a otro.<\/p>\n

Los ganadores inventaron nuevos formatos para subastar muchos objetos interrelacionados simult\u00e1neamente, en nombre de un vendedor motivado por un amplio beneficio social en lugar de un m\u00e1ximo de ingresos. En 1994, las autoridades estadounidenses comenzaron a utilizar estos nuevos formatos para vender frecuencias de radio a los operadores de telecomunicaciones. Desde entonces, muchos otros pa\u00edses han seguido el ejemplo.<\/p>\n

\u201cLos laureados de este a\u00f1o en Ciencias Econ\u00f3micas comenzaron con la teor\u00eda fundamental y luego utilizaron sus resultados en aplicaciones pr\u00e1cticas, que se han extendido a nivel mundial. Sus descubrimientos son de gran beneficio para la sociedad<\/b>\u201d, resalt\u00f3 Peter Fredriksson, presidente del Comit\u00e9 del Premio.<\/p>\n

Los dos economistas, ambos profesores de Stanford, tambi\u00e9n han trabajado en los mecanismos de asignaci\u00f3n de las franjas horarias de aterrizaje en los aeropuertos.<\/p>\n

El nombre oficial del galard\u00f3n es el Premio Sveriges Riksbank (banco central de Suecia) en Ciencias Econ\u00f3micas en memoria de Alfred Nobel, ya que t\u00e9cnicamente no es un Premio Nobel, al no haber sido instaurado por el inventor, pero se lo considera como tal.<\/p>\n

En 2019 fueron premiados la franco-estadounidense Esther Duflo y los norteamericanos Abhijit Banerjee y Michael Kremer por sus trabajos para reducir la pobreza en el mundo.<\/p>\n

Hasta el momento,\u00a0<\/span>el premio Nobel de Econom\u00eda siempre ha sido el m\u00e1s f\u00e1cil de adivinar, y este a\u00f1o se volvi\u00f3 a cumplir con el perfil habitual: un hombre mayor de 55 a\u00f1os y norteamericano<\/b>. En los \u00faltimos 20 a\u00f1os, tres cuartos de los ganadores se corresponden con esa descripci\u00f3n. La edad promedio de los ganadores es superior a los 65 a\u00f1os, la m\u00e1s elevada de los seis premios otorgados.<\/p>\n

Si una mujer se hubiese llevado el premio este lunes, 2020 habr\u00eda igualado el r\u00e9cord de 2009 cuando cinco mujeres recibieron el galard\u00f3n. El n\u00famero de mujeres que reciben este reconocimiento ha aumentado desde comienzos del siglo XXI, pero desde 1901 solo se otorga un Nobel a una mujer por cada 20 ganadores.<\/p>\n

Pese a que es el premio m\u00e1s prestigioso para un investigador en econom\u00eda, el premio no ha adquirido el mismo rango que las disciplinas elegidas por Alfred Nobel en su testamento fundacional (medicina, f\u00edsica, qu\u00edmica, paz y literatura). De hecho, su detractores se burlan de \u00e9l como un \u201cfalso Nobel\u201d que representa en exceso a los economistas ortodoxos y liberales.<\/p>\n

El galard\u00f3n cerr\u00f3 la cosecha de este a\u00f1o que el viernes otorg\u00f3 el prestigioso premio de la Paz al Programa Mundial de Alimentos, el organismo de la ONU para la lucha contra el hambre. El jueves, la poeta estadounidense Louise Gl\u00fcck se alz\u00f3 con el de Literatura. Adem\u00e1s de la estadounidense Andrea Ghez, co-ganadora del de F\u00edsica el martes, dos mujeres han entrado en la historia de los Nobel por su descubrimiento de las \u201ctijeras gen\u00e9ticas\u201d. La francesa Emmanuelle Charpentier y la estadounidense Jennifer Doudna se convirtieron en el primer d\u00fao 100% femenino en ganar un Nobel cient\u00edfico.<\/p>\n

Los premiados, que comparten\u00a0<\/span>poco m\u00e1s de un mill\u00f3n de euros por cada disciplina<\/b>, recibir\u00e1n este a\u00f1o su reconocimiento en su pa\u00eds de residencia, debido al coronavirus.<\/p>\n
