style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Un nuevo gen sensor de calor identificado por cient\u00edficos de la Universidad de California Riverside puede ser la respuesta a la necesidad de plantas que soporten el calentamiento global en curso.<\/span><\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Para 2050, la subida de temperaturas podr\u00eda reducir el rendimiento de los cultivos en un tercio. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Las temperaturas m\u00e1s c\u00e1lidas indican a las plantas que se acerca al verano. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Al anticipar menos agua, florecen temprano y luego carecen de energ\u00eda para producir m\u00e1s semillas, por lo que los rendimientos de los cultivos son menores. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Esto es problem\u00e1tico ya que se espera que la poblaci\u00f3n mundial aumente a 10.000 millones, con mucha menos comida disponible.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">&#8220;Necesitamos plantas que pueden soportar temperaturas m\u00e1s c\u00e1lidas, que tengan m\u00e1s tiempo para florecer y un per\u00edodo de crecimiento m\u00e1s largo&#8221;, dijo en un comunicado el profesor de bot\u00e1nica y ciencias de las plantas en Riverside, Meng Chen. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">\u201cPero, para poder modificar las respuestas de temperatura de las plantas, primero hay que entender c\u00f3mo funcionan. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Por eso es tan importante identificar este gen que permite la respuesta al calor \u201d.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Es nuevo gen, descrito en Nature Communications, es el segundo que han encontrado involucrado en la detecci\u00f3n de temperatura.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Localizaron el primer gen, llamado HEMERA, hace dos a\u00f1os. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Luego hicieron un experimento para ver si pudieron identificar otros genes involucrados en el control del proceso de detecci\u00f3n de temperatura.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Por lo general, las plantas reaccionan a cambios de incluso unos pocos grados en el clima. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Para este experimento, el equipo comenz\u00f3 con una planta de Arabidopsis mutante completamente insensible a la temperatura, y la modificaron para volver a ser reactiva una vez m\u00e1s.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">El examen de los genes de esta planta mutada dos veces aparece el nuevo gen, RCB, cuyos productos trabajan en estrecha colaboraci\u00f3n con HEMERA para estabilizar la funci\u00f3n de detecci\u00f3n de calor. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">\u201cSi anula cualquiera de los genes, su planta ya no es sensible a la temperatura\u201d, dijo Chen.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Se requiere que tanto HEMERA como RCB regulen la abundancia de un grupo de reguladores gen\u00e9ticos maestros que cumplen m\u00faltiples funciones, reaccionan a la temperatura ya la luz y hacen que las plantas se vuelvan verdes. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Estas prote\u00ednas se distribuyen a dos partes diferentes de las c\u00e9lulas vegetales, el n\u00facleo y los org\u00e1nulos llamados cloroplastos.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">En el futuro, Chen dice que su laboratorio se centrar\u00e1 en comprender c\u00f3mo estas dos partes de la c\u00e9lula se comunican y trabajan juntas para lograr el crecimiento, el enverdecimiento, la floraci\u00f3n y otras funciones.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">\u201cCuando cambia la luz o la temperatura, los genes tanto en el n\u00facleo como en los cloroplastos cambian su expresi\u00f3n. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Creemos que HEMERA y RCB est\u00e1n involucrados en la coordinaci\u00f3n de la expresi\u00f3n g\u00e9nica entre estos dos compartimentos celulares \u201d, dijo Chen.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">En \u00faltima instancia, el objetivo es poder modificar la respuesta a la temperatura para garantizar el futuro de nuestro suministro de alimentos.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">\u201cEst\u00e1bamos emocionados de encontrar este
