logrado hacer crecer embriones quim\u00e9ricos durante un per\u00edodo de tiempo considerable: hasta 20 d\u00edas.<\/span><\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">La investigaci\u00f3n, a pesar de sus problemas \u00e9ticos, tiene el potencial de proporcionar nuevos conocimientos sobre la biolog\u00eda del desarrollo y la evoluci\u00f3n. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Tambi\u00e9n puede que ayude al desarrollo de nuevos tratamientos contra enfermedades humanas.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">\u201cComo no podemos realizar ciertos tipos de experimentos en humanos, es esencial que tengamos mejores modelos para estudiar y comprender con mayor precisi\u00f3n la biolog\u00eda humana y las enfermedades humanas\u201d, explica Juan Carlos Izpisua Belmonte, del Instituto Salk de Ciencias Biol\u00f3gicas en Estados Unidos y coautor del estudio. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">\u201cUn objetivo importante de la biolog\u00eda experimental es el desarrollo de sistemas modelo que analizar las enfermedades humanas en condiciones in vivo\u201d.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Las quimeras entre especies distintas de mam\u00edferos se generan desde la d\u00e9cada de 1970, cuando se hicieron con roedores y se utilizaron para estudiar los procesos tempranos del desarrollo.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">El avance que ha hecho posible efectuar el estudio actual se produjo el a\u00f1o pasado, cuando el equipo colaborador de este estudio, dirigido por Weizhi Ji, de la Universidad de Ciencia y Tecnolog\u00eda de Kunming, en Yunnan (China) prepar\u00f3 una tecnolog\u00eda que permit\u00eda a los embriones de mono permanecer vivos y crecer fuera del cuerpo de la madre durante un periodo de tiempo prolongado.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">En el estudio actual, seis d\u00edas despu\u00e9s de la creaci\u00f3n de los embriones de mono, se inyect\u00f3 a cada uno de ellos 25 c\u00e9lulas humanas. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Las c\u00e9lulas proced\u00edan de una l\u00ednea celular pluripotente inducida, concretamente las c\u00e9lulas madre pluripotentes extendidas, que tienen el potencial de contribuir tanto a los tejidos embrionarios como a los extraembrionarios.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Al cabo de un d\u00eda, se detectaron c\u00e9lulas humanas en 132 embriones.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">A los 10 d\u00edas, 103 de los embriones quim\u00e9ricos segu\u00edan desarroll\u00e1ndose.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">La supervivencia pronto comenz\u00f3 a disminuir y, en el d\u00eda 19, solo tres quimeras segu\u00edan vivas. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Sin embargo, es importante destacar que el porcentaje de c\u00e9lulas humanas en los embriones se mantuvo alto durante todo el tiempo que sigui\u00f3 creciendo.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Los autores de los experimentos han publicado los detalles de estos en la revista acad\u00e9mica Cell, bajo el t\u00edtulo de \u201cContribuci\u00f3n quim\u00e9rica de c\u00e9lulas madre pluripotentes extendidas
