Cuando un objeto se enfr\u00eda hasta una temperatura cercana al cero absoluto (-273,16 grados Celsius), sigue teniendo un movimiento cu\u00e1ntico residual, una condici\u00f3n llamada \u2018estado b\u00e1sico de movimiento\u2019.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Previamente, los f\u00edsicos lograron superenfriar objetos peque\u00f1os, de la escala de nanogramos, para que sus \u00e1tomos estuvieran pr\u00e1cticamente parados, hasta el llamado \u2018estado cu\u00e1ntico tan puro\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Ahora, por primera vez, cient\u00edficos del Instituto de Tecnolog\u00eda de Massachusetts (EE.UU.) consiguieron enfriar un objeto grande, a escala humana, con una masa que equivale a 10 kilogramos y compuesto por casi un octill\u00f3n de \u00e1tomos, hasta acercarlo a su estado b\u00e1sico de movimiento.<\/p>\n<p>Con el uso del Observatorio de Ondas Gravitacionales del Interfer\u00f3metro L\u00e1ser (LIGO), los investigadores pudieron medir el movimiento de las masas con extrema precisi\u00f3n y sobreenfriar el movimiento del objeto en cuesti\u00f3n desde la temperatura ambiente hasta 77 nanokelvin, muy cerca de su estado b\u00e1sico de movimiento, que creen que es de 10 nanokelvins, casi el cero absoluto.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abEsto es comparable a la temperatura a la que los f\u00edsicos at\u00f3micos enfr\u00edan sus \u00e1tomos para llegar a su estado b\u00e1sico, y eso es con una peque\u00f1a nube de quiz\u00e1s un mill\u00f3n de \u00e1tomos, que pesan picogramos. As\u00ed que es sorprendente que se pueda enfriar algo mucho m\u00e1s pesado hasta la misma temperatura\u00bb, indic\u00f3 el profesor adjunto de Ingenier\u00eda Mec\u00e1nica del MIT, Vivishek Sudhir.<\/p>\n<p>Los resultados del nuevo estudio, publicado en la revista Science, representan el mayor objeto que se ha enfriado hasta acercarse a su estado b\u00e1sico de movimiento y abren posibilidades para estudiar los efectos de la gravedad en objetos relativamente grandes en estados cu\u00e1nticos.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abNadie ha observado nunca c\u00f3mo act\u00faa la gravedad sobre estados cu\u00e1nticos masivos. Hemos demostrado c\u00f3mo preparar objetos a escala de un kilogramo en estados cu\u00e1nticos.
