Los barnices y revestimientos protectores que se utilizan actualmente para proteger las pinturas art\u00edsticas no son soluciones aceptables, ya que su eliminaci\u00f3n requiere el uso de solventes, que pueden afectar adversamente la superficie de trabajo subyacente.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Un equipo de investigadores del Instituto de Ciencias de la Ingenier\u00eda Qu\u00edmica de la Fundaci\u00f3n para la Investigaci\u00f3n y Tecnolog\u00eda-Hellas (FORTH\/ICE-HT), el Departamento de Ingenier\u00eda Qu\u00edmica de la Universidad de Patras y el Centro de Ciencias de Coloides y Superficies (CSGI) de la Universidad de Florencia, dirigido por el profesor Costas Galiotis, tuvo la idea innovadora de usar velos de grafeno como protecci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Aislado en 2004 por Geim y Novoselov de la Universidad de Manchester (Premio Nobel de F\u00edsica en 2010), el grafeno \u2013una sustancia de carbono puro con \u00e1tomos organizados hexagonalmente\u2013 tiene propiedades excepcionales que ya se han utilizado en muchas aplicaciones y productos. El velo de grafeno utilizado en este trabajo es una pel\u00edcula transparente y flexible producida por la t\u00e9cnica de deposici\u00f3n qu\u00edmica de vapor. Tiene un espesor monoat\u00f3mico y, dado que no hay limitaciones de tama\u00f1o en las otras dimensiones (largo y ancho), puede cubrir cualquier gran superficie requerida.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Los resultados de las mediciones realizadas en los laboratorios antes mencionados, mostraron que esta membrana es impermeable a la humedad, los agentes oxidantes y otros contaminantes nocivos y tambi\u00e9n puede absorber una gran cantidad de radiaci\u00f3n ultravioleta nociva.
