{"id":24509,"date":"2021-09-14T09:58:42","date_gmt":"2021-09-14T15:58:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/otech.uaeh.edu.mx\/noti\/?p=24509"},"modified":"2021-09-14T09:59:35","modified_gmt":"2021-09-14T15:59:35","slug":"inventan-un-iman-que-hace-viable-la-fusion-nuclear","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/otech.uaeh.edu.mx\/noti\/energias-alternas\/inventan-un-iman-que-hace-viable-la-fusion-nuclear\/","title":{"rendered":"Inventan un im\u00e1n que hace viable la fusi\u00f3n nuclear"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">La b\u00fasqueda de una fuente de energ\u00eda ilimitada y limpia acaba de dar un important\u00edsimo paso adelante con la creaci\u00f3n de un nuevo im\u00e1n superconductor \u2014el m\u00e1s potente del mundo\u2014 que requiere muy poca energ\u00eda y que podr\u00eda hacer viable por primera vez la fusi\u00f3n nuclear, la energ\u00eda de las estrellas.<\/span><\/span><!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">&#8220;Los retos para hacer realidad la fusi\u00f3n son tanto t\u00e9cnicos como cient\u00edficos&#8221;, afirma Dennis Whyte, director del Centro de Ciencia del Plasma y Fusi\u00f3n del\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mit.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">MIT<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> . <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">&#8220;Es una fuente de energ\u00eda inagotable y libre de carbono que se puede desplegar en cualquier lugar y en cualquier momento. Es realmente una fuente de energ\u00eda fundamentalmente nueva&#8221;.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">La fusi\u00f3n nuclear se produce de forma natural en el Sol. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Dos \u00e1tomos se unen para formar uno m\u00e1s grande liberando grandes cantidades de energ\u00eda en el proceso. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">En un reactor de fusi\u00f3n se replica esa reacci\u00f3n introduciendo en una c\u00e1mara peque\u00f1os is\u00f3topos del hidr\u00f3geno, el deuterio y tritio, que se calientan hasta los 100 millones de grados y forman un plasma. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Para contener este plasma y evitar que quede suspendido o entre en contacto con alg\u00fan s\u00f3lido, se utilizan potent\u00edsimos imanes.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Otros reactores tokamak de fusi\u00f3n nuclear como los que usa el ITER en Francia, el EAST chino, o el reactor retorcido alem\u00e1n, el Wendelstein 7-X, tienen el problema de que para conseguir el campo necesario para contener el plasma tienen que crear estructuras enormes. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Adem\u00e1s, por ahora gastan m\u00e1s energ\u00eda de la que generan, lo que los hace poco viables para la explotaci\u00f3n comercial. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">El nuevo im\u00e1n promete revertir esta situaci\u00f3n y conseguir producir energ\u00eda neta positiva, lo que nos acerca m\u00e1s que nunca a la viabilidad de esta nueva forma de energ\u00eda.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Un im\u00e1n revolucionario<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Los investigadores del MIT y sus socios en este proyecto, la compa\u00f1\u00eda\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/cfs.energy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Commonwealth Fusion Systems<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> \u00a0(CFS), han pasado los \u00faltimos tres a\u00f1os trabajando en este im\u00e1n para utilizarlo en un dispositivo de demostraci\u00f3n llamado SPARC. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Su previsi\u00f3n es que el sistema est\u00e9 listo en 2025.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">El im\u00e1n utiliza superconductores a alta temperatura que permiten un campo magn\u00e9tico mucho m\u00e1s intenso en un espacio m\u00e1s reducido. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Adem\u00e1s, seg\u00fan afirma Dennis Whyte, director del PSFC ( <\/span><\/span><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.psfc.mit.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Plasma Science and Fusion Center<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> ) del MIT, consigue esto consumiendo solo unos 30 vatios de energ\u00eda. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">En comparaci\u00f3n, otros imanes conductores de cobre que se utilizan tradicionalmente y que el MIT hab\u00eda probado en sus instalaciones pueden alcanzar los 200 millones de vatios.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Seg\u00fan afirman los investigadores, la idea para el dise\u00f1o del nuevo im\u00e1n surgi\u00f3 durante una clase de ingenier\u00eda nuclear donde Whyte era profesor. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Un nuevo material superconductor, que ten\u00eda la forma de una cinta plana, acababa de salir al mercado. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Este material es capaz de conseguir en un espacio reducido grandes campos magn\u00e9ticos que hasta ahora solo puede producirse en estructuras 40 veces m\u00e1s grandes.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Martin Greenwald, director adjunto e investigador principal del PSFC, sostiene que, a diferencia de otros dise\u00f1os de experimentos de fusi\u00f3n: &#8220;el nicho que est\u00e1bamos cubriendo era el de utilizar la f\u00edsica del plasma convencional y los dise\u00f1os e ingenier\u00eda convencional de los tokamak, pero aportando esta nueva tecnolog\u00eda de imanes. Por tanto, no necesit\u00e1bamos innovar en media docena de \u00e1reas diferentes. Nos limit\u00e1bamos a innovar en el im\u00e1n ya aplicar el conocimiento aprendido en las \u00faltimas d\u00e9cadas &#8220;.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Pasar de la fase de dise\u00f1o al producto terminado les llev\u00f3 tres a\u00f1os en los que tuvieron que establecer nuevas cadenas de suministro y la elaboraci\u00f3n de m\u00e9todos de fabricaci\u00f3n de imanes a gran escala.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">&#8220;Empezamos con un modelo f\u00edsico y un dise\u00f1o CAD, y trabajamos con mucho desarrollo y prototipos para convertir un dise\u00f1o en papel en este im\u00e1n f\u00edsico real&#8221;, asegura Joy Dunn, jefe de operaciones de CFS. en marcha nuevas capacidades de fabricaci\u00f3n y crear instalaciones para realizar sus pruebas.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Cada im\u00e1n, aseguran, est\u00e1 compuesto por 16 placas apiladas. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Durante las pruebas, el nuevo im\u00e1n se modific\u00f3 gradualmente hasta alcanzar un campo magn\u00e9tico de 20 teslas, lo que seg\u00fan los investigadores, supone la mayor intensidad de campo jam\u00e1s alcanzada por un im\u00e1n de fusi\u00f3n superconductor de alta temperatura.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">&#8220;Ahora soy realmente optimista en cuanto a que SPARC pueda conseguir energ\u00eda neta positiva, bas\u00e1ndome en el rendimiento demostrado de los imanes&#8221;, dice Maria Zuber, vicepresidenta de investigaci\u00f3n del MIT. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">&#8220;El siguiente paso es ampliar la escala, construir una central el\u00e9ctrica real.
