{"id":24549,"date":"2021-09-15T11:27:49","date_gmt":"2021-09-15T17:27:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/otech.uaeh.edu.mx\/noti\/?p=24549"},"modified":"2021-09-15T11:27:49","modified_gmt":"2021-09-15T17:27:49","slug":"descubren-como-las-aves-terrestres-cruzan-el-oceano-abierto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/otech.uaeh.edu.mx\/noti\/ciencia\/descubren-como-las-aves-terrestres-cruzan-el-oceano-abierto\/","title":{"rendered":"Descubren c\u00f3mo las aves terrestres cruzan el oc\u00e9ano abierto"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Un grupo de cient\u00edficos del Instituto Max Planck de Comportamiento Animal y la Universidad de Konstanz, en Alemania, han identificado algunas caracter\u00edsticas en los vuelos transoce\u00e1nicos de las aves terrestres que les permiten viajar enormes distancias sin detenerse, en condiciones que en principio parecen muy complejas.<!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">De acuerdo a una\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mpg.de\/17436480\/0907-ornr-how-land-birds-cross-the-open-ocean-987453-x?c=2249\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">nota de prensa<\/a>, los investigadores utilizaron<strong>\u00a0tecnolog\u00edas de rastreo GPS<\/strong>\u00a0para poder apreciar al detalle los itinerarios que siguen cinco especies de grandes aves terrestres, acostumbradas a llevar adelante largas traves\u00edas mar\u00edtimas. La investigaci\u00f3n ha sido publicada recientemente en la revista Proceedings of the Royal Society B.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Las concepciones previas<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Seg\u00fan estudios previos, las aves realizan estos viajes aprovechando el denominado\u00a0\u00a0<strong>\u00abviento de cola\u00bb<\/strong>, una corriente de viento horizontal que sopla en la direcci\u00f3n de vuelo de las aves, permiti\u00e9ndoles ahorrar energ\u00eda. Vale recordar que mantener un vuelo de aleteo durante cientos de kil\u00f3metros es un enorme esfuerzo e insume un fuerte costo de energ\u00eda, para aves de grandes dimensiones y un peso considerable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Si retrocedemos m\u00e1s en el tiempo, a lo largo de varios siglos los observadores de aves pensaron que las especies terrestres no superaban una distancia de 100 kil\u00f3metros al volar sobre el mar, y que directamente no se enfrentaban a los peligros que suponen los oc\u00e9anos abiertos. No solamente estaban equivocados, sino que adem\u00e1s la ciencia ha logrado demostrar qu\u00e9 mecanismos les permiten a las aves\u00a0<strong>atravesar esas abismales distancias<\/strong>\u00a0en contextos supuestamente desfavorables.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Rutas inteligentes<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">El estudio alem\u00e1n ha examinado el comportamiento de 65 aves de cinco especies diferentes cuando atraviesan el oc\u00e9ano, obteniendo informaci\u00f3n in\u00e9dita sobre c\u00f3mo las\u00a0<strong><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/tendencias21.levante-emv.com\/una-proteina-en-los-ojos-permite-a-las-aves-orientarse-en-vuelo_a44482.html\" rel=\"nofollow\">aves<\/a>\u00a0terrestres<\/strong>\u00a0sobreviven a vuelos tan largos e incluso no necesitan realizar escalas para descansar o procurar alimento.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00bfC\u00f3mo lo logran? Al parecer, la clave se encuentra en dos variables:\u00a0<strong>el viento y la elevaci\u00f3n<\/strong>. Los especialistas concluyen que las aves aprovechan las mejores condiciones atmosf\u00e9ricas para reducir los costos de energ\u00eda durante el vuelo, pero que no se trata de una cuesti\u00f3n azarosa: seleccionan las rutas de acuerdo a estas condiciones e incluso son capaces de modificar los itinerarios para encontrar las caracter\u00edsticas ideales.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Los especialistas estudiaron las rutas durante nueve a\u00f1os, obteniendo la informaci\u00f3n atmosf\u00e9rica global que les permiti\u00f3 identificar los criterios empleados por las aves para seleccionar sus rutas de migraci\u00f3n sobre el mar abierto. Por ejemplo, hallaron que la mayor\u00eda de las especies opta por per\u00edodos temporales y zonas de vuelo que les garanticen\u00a0<strong>condiciones favorables de elevaci\u00f3n<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Las aves optimizan al m\u00e1ximo el<strong>\u00a0apoyo del viento<\/strong>\u00a0al seleccionar sus rutas de cruce mar\u00edtimo, en tanto que eligen una mayor elevaci\u00f3n cuando disponen de un apoyo de viento adecuado. Esto significa que las\u00a0<strong>\u00abrutas inteligentes\u00bb<\/strong>\u00a0que siguen las aves se sustentan en una combinaci\u00f3n entre los dos factores: el viento y la elevaci\u00f3n.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">El rol de la elevaci\u00f3n<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00bfPor qu\u00e9 es tan importante la\u00a0<strong>elevaci\u00f3n<\/strong>? Las condiciones propicias de elevaci\u00f3n permiten que la traves\u00eda por mar sea menos exigente en t\u00e9rminos energ\u00e9ticos, al reducir la resistencia.
