construcci\u00f3n est\u00e1 desesperada por una soluci\u00f3n m\u00e1s limpia, ya que tanto las empresas emergentes como los gigantes de la fabricaci\u00f3n est\u00e1n desarrollando formas de reducir las emisiones, pero la naturaleza del material y la forma en que se fabrica significa que el concreto neto cero puede no ser posible.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">El hormig\u00f3n est\u00e1 hecho de materiales como arena, rocas y \u00e1ridos pegados con cemento, y durante los \u00faltimos 200 a\u00f1os eso se ha referido en gran medida al cemento Portland, un invento ingl\u00e9s que cambi\u00f3 la forma en que construimos. <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Pero hay un problema: para producir cemento Portland, la piedra caliza se calienta a\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><a class=\"external-link\" style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/supermud-bricks-could-help-tackle-the-worlds-housing-crisis-and-cut-carbon-emissions-that-cause-climate-change-95628\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener calcio.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">&#8220;Las reacciones qu\u00edmicas inherentes a este proceso liberan enormes cantidades de di\u00f3xido de carbono; no hay forma de escapar de eso&#8221;, dice Brant Walkley, profesor de ingenier\u00eda qu\u00edmica en la Universidad de Sheffield. <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Agrega que la mitad de las emisiones de la producci\u00f3n de cemento provienen de este proceso. <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">&#8220;Por cada mol\u00e9cula de piedra caliza que se utiliza para fabricar cemento Portland, se libera una mol\u00e9cula de di\u00f3xido de carbono&#8221;.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Una soluci\u00f3n es agregar materiales complementarios, como escoria de alto horno de la producci\u00f3n de acero, cenizas volantes de centrales el\u00e9ctricas de carb\u00f3n, humo de s\u00edlice, arcillas calcinadas y otros desechos industriales. <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Eso no solo mantiene estos desechos y subproductos fuera del vertedero, sino que significa que se necesita menos cemento, lo que reduce las emisiones\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><a class=\"external-link\" style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/sustainable-cement-the-simple-switch-that-could-massively-cut-global-carbon-emissions-144837\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Las alternativas como los geopol\u00edmeros y el sulfoaluminato de calcio no eliminan esa mol\u00e9cula de carbono da\u00f1ina, dice Kevin Paine, profesor de la Universidad de Bath, pero hay menos materias primas necesarias en todo el mundo. <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">&#8220;Ninguno de ellos se puede fabricar a la escala que necesitamos actualmente&#8221;, dice. <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">&#8220;Una vez inyectado, el CO2 se convierte qu\u00edmicamente en un mineral, lo que elimina permanentemente el CO2 y de hecho mejora la resistencia a la compresi\u00f3n del hormig\u00f3n&#8221;, dice Dean Forgeron, vicepresidente de ingenier\u00eda. <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">La t\u00e9cnica reduce hasta un seis por ciento en emisiones, dice la compa\u00f1\u00eda, ahorrando 125 toneladas de CO2 al hacer un edificio de mediana altura.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Luigi Di Sarno, del grupo de Infraestructura Resiliente y Sostenible de la Universidad de Liverpool, argumenta que un dise\u00f1o inteligente podr\u00eda reducir la necesidad de mantenimiento y reemplazo de concreto en edificios, puentes e infraestructura inundada como muros de defensa contra inundaciones, lo que ayuda a reducir el carbono. <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">emisiones. <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Su hormig\u00f3n autocurativo, llamado BIOCOREWALLS, repara grietas con bacterias que producen piedra caliza cuando entra en contacto con el agua, lo que prolonga la vida \u00fatil de la infraestructura construida con hormig\u00f3n en un 30 por ciento.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Las recetas modificadas, las alternativas de cemento, el curado con carbono y los dise\u00f1os de autorreparaci\u00f3n ayudar\u00e1n, pero reducir nuestro uso de concreto en primer lugar podr\u00eda ser la forma m\u00e1s sencilla de reducir las emisiones. <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Los puentes, rascacielos y plantas de energ\u00eda nuclear requieren hormig\u00f3n, pero \u00bfpor qu\u00e9 utilizamos este material dise\u00f1ado con precisi\u00f3n para hacer senderos o muros de contenci\u00f3n? <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">&#8220;Si optimizamos su uso, eso mejora\u00e1 su sostenibilidad, porque no est\u00e1 desperdiciando ese rendimiento y generaci\u00f3n de emisiones de CO2 que no eran necesarias&#8221;, dice Walkley.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p
