La efectividad de esta nueva inmunoterapia con los f\u00e1rmacos nivolumab e ipilimumab supondr\u00edan un paso gigantesco para superar el desgaste f\u00edsico tras tratamientos convencionales como la quimioterapia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">La inmunoterapia es un tipo de tratamiento oncol\u00f3gico que se caracteriza por el uso de medicamentos que fortalezcan el sistema inmunol\u00f3gico para detectar y combatir el c\u00e1ncer. Seg\u00fan los cient\u00edficos, este tratamiento, adem\u00e1s de ser m\u00e1s amable y seguro, tambi\u00e9n est\u00e1 demostrando resultados en investigaciones contra el c\u00e1ncer de ri\u00f1\u00f3n, piel e intestino.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Pese a que los resultados del ensayo de fase 3, donde participaron 957 voluntarios, no fueron significativos estad\u00edsticamente, sus autores destacan que s\u00ed sirvieron en materia cl\u00ednica. El motivo se debe a que no solo se demostr\u00f3 una prolongaci\u00f3n de meses y\/o a\u00f1os de vida, sino, adem\u00e1s, menos efectos secundarios, como n\u00e1useas, dolor, p\u00e9rdida del apetito, cansancio y problemas respiratorios.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cEl tratamiento que he recibido en el Royal Marsden ha sido insuperable y soy muy afortunado de que hayan encontrado un tratamiento que me funciona\u201d, sostuvo ante el ICR Barry Ambrose, un voluntario de 77 a\u00f1os con c\u00e1ncer a la garganta, cuyo tumor desapareci\u00f3 por completo durante el estudio.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">La investigaci\u00f3n revel\u00f3 que quienes presentaron mayor mejor\u00eda fueron aquellos voluntarios cuyos tumores arrojaron niveles altos de un marcador inmune llamado PD-L1. As\u00ed, se reportaron datos sin precedentes: quienes fueron tratados con el c\u00f3ctel de f\u00e1rmacos vivieron un promedio de tres meses m\u00e1s que aquellos que recibieron quimioterapia, mientras que la supervivencia general se ubic\u00f3 en 17,6 meses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Un pr\u00f3ximo ensayo llamado Checkmate 651, financiado por Bristol Myers Squibb, fortalecer\u00e1 los beneficios de este tipo de tratamiento en pacientes con c\u00e1ncer de este tipo, sostuvieron los cient\u00edficos.
