inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">El vasto complejo hidroel\u00e9ctrico, el cuarto m\u00e1s grande del mundo, volc\u00f3 completamente el tramo norte del r\u00edo Xingu, uno de los <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Aunque pocas son tan grandes como Belo pueden causar las represas?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Algunos investigadores creen que hay una forma inteligente de salir de este dilema. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">La mayor\u00eda de ellos no genera electricidad en absoluto, se utilizan para riego, suministro de agua, control de inundaciones o para la pesca y la navegaci\u00f3n. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Si podemos encontrar una manera de poner turbinas en esas represas para que tambi\u00e9n produzcan energ\u00eda hidroel\u00e9ctrica, un proceso conocido como reacondicionamiento, podr\u00edamos desbloquear un enorme potencial de energ\u00eda renovable que no se est\u00e1 aprovechando.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">En un sistema modernizado, el agua que cae a trav\u00e9s de la presa har\u00eda girar las palas de la turbina reci\u00e9n instaladas conectadas a un generador, y ese giro generar\u00eda electricidad que podr\u00eda distribuir a los hogares locales o conectar una red el\u00e9ctrica m\u00e1s grande. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">&#8220;\u00bfCu\u00e1nto m\u00e1s podemos sacar de la revitalizaci\u00f3n de la infraestructura existente, en el lugar de expandir y construir nueva infraestructura?&#8221; <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">McManamay y sus colegas estimaron que la modernizaci\u00f3n de presas y la mejora de las plantas hidroel\u00e9ctricas existentes podr\u00edan aumentar su producci\u00f3n m\u00e1xima en 78 gigavatios adicionales. style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">La modernizaci\u00f3n y mejora de las presas en la cuenca del r\u00edo Amazonas podr\u00eda desbloquear 1,6 gigavatios de nueva producci\u00f3n de electricidad.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Esa es aproximadamente la cantidad de energ\u00eda producida por una central el\u00e9ctrica de gas natural y suficiente para evitar la construcci\u00f3n de 17 nuevas presas m\u00e1s peque\u00f1as en total. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">La modernizaci\u00f3n y modernizaci\u00f3n de las presas en la cuenca del r\u00edo Mekong en el sudeste asi\u00e1tico podr\u00eda generar tanta energ\u00eda que todas las nuevas que est\u00e1n programadas para construirse en la regi\u00f3n n\u00fameros excedentes de lo requerido.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Algunos pa\u00edses ya est\u00e1n haciendo uso de este potencial. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Desde el a\u00f1o 2000, 36 represas en los EE. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">UU. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Se han modernizado con turbinas, lo que agrega m\u00e1s de 500 megavatios de capacidad de generaci\u00f3n renovable. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">De 2016 descubri\u00f3 que se podr\u00edan generar 4.8 gigavatios adicionales de electricidad mediante la\u00a0
