Esto plantea una pregunta preocupante: Si la tendencia se mantiene, \u00bfen el futuro quedar\u00e1 alguna zona del \u00c1rtico que albergue hielo marino durante todo el a\u00f1o? <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">De la respuesta a esta pregunta depende que perdure o no el h\u00e1bitat tradicional de diversas poblaciones de animales.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">El nuevo estudio, realizado por el equipo de Robert Newton, del\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ldeo.columbia.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Observatorio Terrestre Lamont-Doherty<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> , dependiente de la Universidad de Columbia en la ciudad estadounidense de Nueva York, ha permitido obtener datos que responden a esa pregunta.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">El estudio se centr\u00f3 en una regi\u00f3n de un mill\u00f3n de kil\u00f3metros cuadrados al norte de Groenlandia y en las costas del archipi\u00e9lago canadiense, donde el hielo marino que dura todo el a\u00f1o ha sido tradicionalmente m\u00e1s grueso y, por tanto, probablemente m\u00e1s resistente.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Los resultados de la investigaci\u00f3n indican que, tanto en un escenario optimista como en otro pesimista, para el a\u00f1o 2050 el hielo veraniego en esa regi\u00f3n se habr\u00e1 reducido dr\u00e1sticamente.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">En el escenario optimista, si las emisiones de carbono pueden reducirse lo suficiente, una cantidad modesta de hielo podr\u00eda persistir cada verano, por tiempo indefinido.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Sin embargo, en el escenario pesimista, en el que las emisiones siguen el curso actual, para el a\u00f1o 2100 no habr\u00e1 hielo marino capaz de durar todo el a\u00f1o. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">En los veranos, el \u00c1rtico se quedar\u00e1 sin hielo, y criaturas como las focas y los osos polares se quedar\u00e1n sin su h\u00e1bitat tradicional.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">El estudio se titula \u201cDefinici\u00f3n de la &#8216;vertiente de hielo&#8217; de la \u00faltima zona de hielo del Oc\u00e9ano \u00c1rtico y su evoluci\u00f3n futura\u201d. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Y se ha publicado en la revista acad\u00e9mica\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/journal\/23284277\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Earth&#8217;s Future<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> .<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Fuente:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">M.
