Estas se\u00f1ales pueden entonces traducirse en \u00f3rdenes digitales para controlar sistemas rob\u00f3ticos.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El dispositivo es obra del equipo de Francesca Iacopi y Chin-Teng Lin, ambos de la Universidad Tecnol\u00f3gica de S\u00eddney (UTS) en Australia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El sensor est\u00e1 hecho de grafeno epitaxial (esencialmente m\u00faltiples capas de carbono muy fino y muy resistente) formado directamente sobre un sustrato de carburo de silicio encima de silicio. El resultado es una novedosa tecnolog\u00eda de detecci\u00f3n que supera los tres principales retos de la biodetecci\u00f3n basada en el grafeno: la tendencia a la corrosi\u00f3n, la escasa durabilidad y el entorpecimiento en la lectura de se\u00f1ales generado en el contacto con la piel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El grafeno es, a grandes rasgos, una l\u00e1mina de carbono con un grosor del orden de un \u00e1tomo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os, el grafeno viene siendo utilizado con frecuencia en el desarrollo de biosensores. Sin embargo, hasta la fecha, muchos de estos dispositivos se han desarrollado para un solo uso y son propensos a desprenderse al entrar en contacto con el sudor y otras formas de humedad en la piel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En cambio, el nuevo biosensor puede emplearse durante periodos prolongados y es reutilizable m\u00faltiples veces, incluso en entornos altamente salinos, un logro sin precedentes. Adem\u00e1s, se ha demostrado que el sensor reduce dr\u00e1sticamente el entorpecimiento en la lectura de se\u00f1ales generado en el contacto con la piel, cuando un contacto no \u00f3ptimo entre el sensor y la piel dificulta la detecci\u00f3n de las se\u00f1ales el\u00e9ctricas del cerebro. Con el nuevo sensor, ese entorpecimiento se ha reducido ya en m\u00e1s de un 75 por ciento.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Todo esto significa que las se\u00f1ales el\u00e9ctricas enviadas por el cerebro pueden ahora recogerse de forma mucho m\u00e1s fiable y luego amplificarse significativamente, y que los sensores tambi\u00e9n pueden utilizarse con fiabilidad en condiciones adversas, lo que aumenta su potencial de uso en interfaces cerebro-m\u00e1quina.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Iacopi y sus colegas exponen los detalles t\u00e9cnicos de su innovaci\u00f3n en la revista acad\u00e9mica Journal of Neural Engineering, bajo el t\u00edtulo \u201cNon-invasive on-skin sensors for brain machine interfaces with epitaxial graphene\u201d.
