El grupo us\u00f3 la c\u00farcuma para fabricar c\u00e1todos de pilas de combustible de etanol directas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Estas pilas siempre han presentado un gran desaf\u00edo t\u00e9cnico: para convertir eficazmente el alcohol en electricidad, la c\u00e9lula requiere catalizadores a base de platino en los electrodos, un metal que no s\u00f3lo es caro, sino que tambi\u00e9n es propenso a la \u00abintoxicaci\u00f3n\u00bb por mon\u00f3xido de carbono. La presencia de incluso peque\u00f1as cantidades de CO puede reducir el rendimiento de la pila de combustible.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Receta para unas pilas de combustible eficientes.<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Para resolver el problema, el equipo us\u00f3 nanopart\u00edculas de oro como catalizador. En lugar de usar pol\u00edmeros conductores, estructuras metal-org\u00e1nicas u otros materiales complejos para depositarlo en la superficie del c\u00e1todo, los investigadores eligieron la curcumina, un extracto de la c\u00farcuma.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La sustancia se us\u00f3 para crear una red porosa alrededor de las part\u00edculas con el fin de estabilizarlas.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>Sin este revestimiento, el rendimiento es escaso.<\/p>\n<p><cite>Apparao Rao, director fundador del CNI.<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El nanocompuesto mostr\u00f3 una excelente estabilidad (~200 ciclos), una f\u00e1cil capacidad de transferencia de electrones y una muy buena actividad catal\u00edtica.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>Hay un gran impulso en el campo de la oxidaci\u00f3n del alcohol. Este descubrimiento es un excelente facilitador para ese fin.
