Los que tienen osteoartritis en las articulaciones sufren mucho. Necesitamos una nueva alternativa de\u00a0tratamiento\u00a0para esto\u201c,\u00a0dijo Ibrahim T. Ozbolat, responsable de la investigaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>El cart\u00edlago es un buen tejido para la bioimpresi\u00f3n a gran escala, ya que est\u00e1 formada por un solo tipo de c\u00e9lulas y no tiene vasos sangu\u00edneos dentro del tejido. Tambi\u00e9n es un tejido que no se puede reparar a s\u00ed mismo. Una vez que el cart\u00edlago se da\u00f1a, permanece da\u00f1ado.<\/p>\n<p>En los primeros intentos su utilizaban\u00a0hidrogeles\u00a0para hacer crecer el cart\u00edlago, sin embargo estos no permiten que las c\u00e9lulas crezcan de manera normal, confinando a las c\u00e9lulas y no permite que se comuniquen como lo hacen en tejidos nativos.<\/p>\n<p>Para este nuevo enfoque y producirlo a mayor escala sin necesidad de utilizar un andamio, se utiliz\u00f3 un peque\u00f1o tubo hecho de alginato, un extracto de algas, de unas 3 a 5 cent\u00e9simas de pulgada de di\u00e1metro. Despu\u00e9s inyectaron las\u00a0c\u00e9lulas del cart\u00edlago\u00a0en el tubo y dejaron que crecieran durante una semana y se adhiriesen entre s\u00ed. Dado que las c\u00e9lulas no se adhieren al alginato, pudieron extraer el tubo y quedarse con una hebra de cart\u00edlago.<\/p>\n<p>La hebra de cart\u00edlago sustituye a la tinta en el proceso de\u00a0impresi\u00f3n 3D. Usando un prototipo de boquilla especialmente dise\u00f1ada para sostener y alimentar la cadena de cart\u00edlago, la impresora 3D crea filas de hebras de cart\u00edlago siguiendo cualquier patr\u00f3n que los investigadores deseen.<\/p>\n<p>Despu\u00e9s de aproximadamente media hora, el parche de cart\u00edlago se autoadhiere lo suficiente para mover a una placa de Petri. Los investigadores pusieron el parche en medios nutrientes para permitirle que se integrara m\u00e1s en una sola pieza de tejido. Finalmente, los filamentos se adhieren plenamente y se funden entre s\u00ed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPodemos fabricar hilos de la longitud que queramos\u201c, dijo Ozbolat. \u201cPorque no hay andamios, el proceso de la\u00a0impresi\u00f3n del cart\u00edlago\u00a0es escalable, por lo que los parches se pueden hacer m\u00e1s grandes tambi\u00e9n. Podemos imitar un cart\u00edlago articular real mediante la impresi\u00f3n vertical de hebras y luego horizontal, para imitar la arquitectura natural\u201c.<\/p>\n<p>El cart\u00edlago artificial producido por el equipo es muy similar al cart\u00edlago nativo de vaca. Sin embargo, las propiedades mec\u00e1nicas son inferiores a las del cart\u00edlago natural, pero mejores que las del cart\u00edlago producido con andamios de hidrogel. El cart\u00edlago natural se forma con la presi\u00f3n de las articulaciones, y Ozbolat piensa que la presi\u00f3n mec\u00e1nica sobre el cart\u00edlago artificial mejorar\u00e1 las propiedades mec\u00e1nicas.<\/p>\n<p>Si este proceso se aplica finalmente a los\u00a0cart\u00edlagos humanos, probablemente cada individuo tratado tendr\u00eda que proporcionar su propio material de origen para evitar el rechazo de los tejidos. La fuente podr\u00eda ser c\u00e9lulas de cart\u00edlago existentes o c\u00e9lulas madre diferenciadas en c\u00e9lulas de
