Ahora, gracias al trabajo de Charles Lieber, de la Universidad de Harvard (EU), y otros investigadores, el siguiente paso podr\u00eda estar m\u00e1s cerca.<\/p>\n<p>Lieber describe en un art\u00edculo que se publica en Nature Nanotechnology que la construcci\u00f3n de andamios electr\u00f3nicos a nanoescala puede sembrarse con c\u00e9lulas cardiacas para generar un parche cardiaco &#8216;bi\u00f3nico&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCreo que uno de los mayores impactos en \u00faltima instancia ser\u00eda estar en el \u00e1rea que implica reemplazar tejido cardiaco da\u00f1ado con parches de tejido preformadas -apunta Lieber-. En lugar de simplemente implantar un parche de ingenier\u00eda construido en un andamio pasivo, nuestros trabajos sugieren que ser\u00e1 posible implantar quir\u00fargicamente un parche inervado que ser\u00eda capaz de controlar y ajustar sutilmente su rendimiento\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Una vez implantado, seg\u00fan Lieber, el parche bi\u00f3nico podr\u00eda actuar de manera similar a un marcapasos, aplicando descargas el\u00e9ctricas para corregir la arritmia, pero las posibilidades no terminan all\u00ed. \u201cEn este estudio, hemos demostrado que podemos cambiar la frecuencia y la direcci\u00f3n de propagaci\u00f3n de la se\u00f1al -contin\u00faa&#8211;. Creemos que podr\u00eda ser muy importante para controlar la arritmia y otros trastornos cardiacos\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Nueva generaci\u00f3n<\/p>\n<p>A diferencia de los marcapasos tradicionales, a\u00e1de Lieber, el parche bi\u00f3nico &#8211;como sus componentes electr\u00f3nicos est\u00e1n integrados en todo el tejido&#8211; puede detectar la arritmia mucho antes y funcionar a tensiones mucho menores. \u201cIncluso antes de que una persona comience a entrar en arritmia a gran escala que con frecuencia provoca da\u00f1os irreversibles, u otros problemas cardiacos, puede detectar las inestabilidades en etapa temprana e intervenir antes -subraya-. Tambi\u00e9n puede monitorizar continuamente la regeneraci\u00f3n de los tejidos y responder activamente\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUn marcapasos normal, como est\u00e1 en la superficie, tiene que utilizar tensiones relativamente altas\u201d, detalla Lieber, apuntando que el parche tambi\u00e9n podr\u00eda emplearse como una herramienta para monitorear las respuestas bajo medicamentos para el coraz\u00f3n, o para ayudar a las empresas farmac\u00e9uticas a probar la eficacia de los f\u00e1rmacos en fase de desarrollo.<\/p>\n<p>Seg\u00fan este experto, el parche cardiaco bi\u00f3nico tambi\u00e9n puede ser una plataforma \u00fanica para estudiar el comportamiento de los tejidos durante la evoluci\u00f3n de algunos procesos de desarrollo, como el envejecimiento, la isquemia o la diferenciaci\u00f3n de c\u00e9lulas madre en c\u00e9lulas cardiacas maduras.<\/p>\n<p>Aunque el parche cardiaco bi\u00f3nico todav\u00eda no se ha implantado en animales, los cient\u00edficos est\u00e1n interesados en identificar de colaboradores que investiguen la implantaci\u00f3n del parche cardiaco para tratar el infarto de miocardio en un modelo de roedor. \u201cNo creo que fuera
