{"id":27647,"date":"2022-07-18T08:47:08","date_gmt":"2022-07-18T14:47:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/otech.uaeh.edu.mx\/noti\/?p=27647"},"modified":"2022-07-18T08:47:08","modified_gmt":"2022-07-18T14:47:08","slug":"una-breve-historia-del-boson-de-higgs-el-santo-grial-de-la-fisica","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/otech.uaeh.edu.mx\/noti\/ciencia\/una-breve-historia-del-boson-de-higgs-el-santo-grial-de-la-fisica\/","title":{"rendered":"Una breve historia del bos\u00f3n de Higgs, el Santo Grial de la f\u00edsica"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-gtm-vis-recent-on-screen-8631395_73=\"268844\" data-gtm-vis-first-on-screen-8631395_73=\"268844\" data-gtm-vis-total-visible-time-8631395_73=\"100\" data-gtm-vis-has-fired-8631395_73=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Este mes marca el d\u00e9cimo aniversario del\u00a0<a class=\"Link\" style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/newatlas.com\/higgs-like-boson-discovered\/23188\/?itm_source=newatlas&amp;itm_medium=article-body\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">descubrimiento del bos\u00f3n de Higgs<\/a>\u00a0, un verdadero &#8220;Santo Grial&#8221; de la ciencia que hab\u00eda eludido la detecci\u00f3n durante casi 50 a\u00f1os.\u00a0Pero, \u00bfqu\u00e9 es exactamente esta part\u00edcula y por qu\u00e9 es tan importante?\u00a0\u00bfQu\u00e9 nos ha ense\u00f1ado en la d\u00e9cada desde su descubrimiento y, lo que es m\u00e1s importante, qu\u00e9 podr\u00eda ense\u00f1arnos en la pr\u00f3xima d\u00e9cada?<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">El modelo est\u00e1ndar de f\u00edsica de part\u00edculas predice que el universo est\u00e1 compuesto por 12 part\u00edculas de materia elemental, cuatro portadores de fuerza y \u200b\u200buna part\u00edcula final que lo mantiene todo unido: el bos\u00f3n de Higgs.\u00a0Durante mucho tiempo, el Higgs fue la \u00faltima pieza que faltaba en el rompecabezas, lo cual era un problema porque sin \u00e9l, el resto de la imagen no ten\u00eda sentido.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"recirculation\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"PromoA\" data-content-type=\"article\" data-image-align=\"left\">\n<div class=\"PromoA-content\">\n<div class=\"PromoA-title\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Su existencia fue predicha por primera vez en la d\u00e9cada de 1960 por su hom\u00f3nimo Peter Higgs, y de forma independiente por el equipo de Fran\u00e7ois Englert y Robert Brout. Los f\u00edsicos hab\u00edan estado trabajando para responder a la pregunta de c\u00f3mo las part\u00edculas elementales ganan masa y calcularon que ocurre cuando interact\u00faan con un campo cu\u00e1ntico que impregna el universo. Este modelo predijo que el llamado campo de Higgs tambi\u00e9n dar\u00eda lugar a su propia part\u00edcula, y as\u00ed naci\u00f3 el concepto del bos\u00f3n de Higgs.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Predecirlo era una cosa, pero encontrarlo era otra.\u00a0El modelo indic\u00f3 que el bos\u00f3n de Higgs se descompondr\u00eda en otras part\u00edculas casi instant\u00e1neamente, dando a los cient\u00edficos una ventana muy peque\u00f1a para observarlo.\u00a0Para empeorar las cosas, la masa de la part\u00edcula podr\u00eda oscilar entre 10 y 1000 gigaelectronvoltios (GeV).\u00a0Como tal, la b\u00fasqueda se consider\u00f3 imposible durante d\u00e9cadas.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>El descubrimiento<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"Enhancement\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" style=\"color: #000000;\">No fue hasta la d\u00e9cada de 1980 que la tecnolog\u00eda finalmente se puso al d\u00eda.\u00a0Los f\u00edsicos se dieron cuenta de que los bosones de Higgs se pod\u00edan crear al hacer chocar part\u00edculas a altas velocidades y, aunque se desvanecer\u00edan r\u00e1pidamente, su firma podr\u00eda detectarse al observar las part\u00edculas resultantes en busca de aquellas en las que el Higgs podr\u00eda desintegrarse.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Incluso con una serie de colisionadores de part\u00edculas funcionando a una potencia cada vez mayor, el bos\u00f3n de Higgs a\u00fan evadi\u00f3 la detecci\u00f3n durante las pr\u00f3ximas d\u00e9cadas.\u00a0Sin embargo, no fue un fracaso total: cada resultado nulo ayud\u00f3 a reducir el rango de masas posibles, de modo que durante los primeros a\u00f1os del\u00a0<a class=\"Link\" style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/newatlas.com\/large-hadron-collider-10-year-anniversary\/56298\/?itm_source=newatlas&amp;itm_medium=article-body\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">Gran Colisionador de Hadrones<\/a>\u00a0(LHC) del CERN se redujo a entre 115 y 130 GeV.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">La atenci\u00f3n se centr\u00f3 particularmente en torno a 125 GeV, donde los equipos del LHC hab\u00edan notado un exceso de eventos consistentes con el bos\u00f3n de Higgs.\u00a0El CERN esperaba que los datos &#8221;\u00a0<a class=\"Link\" style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/press.cern\/news\/press-release\/cern\/atlas-and-cms-experiments-present-higgs-search-status\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">daran una respuesta definitiva<\/a>\u00a0&#8221; a finales de 2012, lo que confirmar\u00eda la existencia o la inexistencia del bos\u00f3n de Higgs, de una vez por todas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Y efectivamente, el 4 de julio de 2012, los f\u00edsicos de part\u00edculas anunciaron el descubrimiento hist\u00f3rico del bos\u00f3n de Higgs.\u00a0Los datos de dos equipos independientes del CERN, ATLAS y CMS, convergieron en la misma conclusi\u00f3n: encontraron una nueva part\u00edcula con una masa de alrededor de 125,3 GeV y varias otras propiedades similares a las de Higgs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Otros experimentos confirmaron que era el bos\u00f3n de Higgs largamente buscado, lo que le vali\u00f3 a Peter Higgs y Fran\u00e7ois Englert el\u00a0<a class=\"Link\" style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/newatlas.com\/englert-higgs-2013-nobel-prize-physics\/29321\/?itm_source=newatlas&amp;itm_medium=article-body\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">Premio Nobel de F\u00edsica 2013<\/a>\u00a0por el descubrimiento te\u00f3rico original.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Tan emocionante como fue el anuncio en ese momento, a menudo se informa que el bos\u00f3n de Higgs se ha vuelto bastante &#8220;aburrido&#8221; desde entonces, ya que no ha revelado ninguna nueva f\u00edsica salvaje.\u00a0Entonces, \u00bfqu\u00e9 ha estado haciendo en la d\u00e9cada desde su descubrimiento?<\/span><br \/>\n<b><\/b><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>La d\u00e9cada desde<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<div examinaron la nueva part\u00edcula para comprobar si ten\u00eda todas las propiedades predichas por el Modelo Est\u00e1ndar.\u00a0Su esp\u00edn, por ejemplo, deb\u00eda ser cero, y la forma en que se style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Tome\u00a0<a class=\"Link\" style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/newatlas.com\/physics\/dark-matter-what-is-explained-history-hunt-experiments\/?itm_source=newatlas&amp;itm_medium=article-body\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">la materia oscura,<\/a>\u00a0por materia, o si tenemos suerte, podr\u00eda reescribir las leyes de la naturaleza.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">El hecho de que el universo todav\u00eda exista sugiere que es m\u00e1s estable de lo que sugieren nuestros modelos, gracias a otras fuerzas desconocidas en juego.\u00a0El bos\u00f3n de Higgs podr\u00eda ayudarnos a descubrir
