Esto limita su aplicaci\u00f3n generalizada y eleva los costes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ahora, ingenieros qu\u00edmicos de la Universidad de Melbourne (Australia) han desarrollado un prototipo de electrolizador que aprovecha el aire h\u00famedo en lugar del agua l\u00edquida. El sistema es capaz de absorberla en forma gaseosa y dividirla en sus dos componentes: hidr\u00f3geno y ox\u00edgeno, seg\u00fan publican en la revista Nature Communications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cEl hidr\u00f3geno se produce y se recoge en un compartimento cat\u00f3dico situado en la parte superior del electrolizador, y luego se transporta a un dep\u00f3sito de gas\u201d, explica a SINC el investigador principal, Gang Kevin Li, \u201cpor su parte, el ox\u00edgeno se desprende en el compartimento del \u00e1nodo situado en la parte inferior, y como ahora no lo recogemos para ninguna aplicaci\u00f3n concreta, simplemente se libera a la atm\u00f3sfera\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Electrolizador de aire directo<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">El prototipo que han probado los autores incluye cinco electrolizadores de aire directo (DAE, por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s) apilados verticalmente y en paralelo. Para obtener la energ\u00eda utilizaron un panel solar comercial de silicio y, en otro ensayo, una peque\u00f1a turbina de viento.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">De esta forma fueron capaces de hacerlo funcionar durante 12 d\u00edas consecutivos. Tambi\u00e9n demostraron que puede funcionar eficazmente en un entorno seco de alrededor del 4 % de humedad, sin necesidad de agua l\u00edquida.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Los investigadores destacan que esta tecnolog\u00eda es escalable y se podr\u00eda utilizar para suministrar combustible de hidr\u00f3geno en regiones remotas, \u00e1ridas y semi\u00e1ridas, con un impacto medioambiental m\u00ednimo.
