Tambi\u00e9n dice que es rentable, ya que es cinco veces m\u00e1s eficiente que el vidrio, lo que reduce significativamente el costo de energ\u00eda.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Actualmente, el mundo produce alrededor de 400 millones de toneladas de desechos pl\u00e1sticos cada a\u00f1o, con niveles crecientes de pl\u00e1stico de un solo uso que se usa y luego se desecha, seg\u00fan el Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Medio Ambiente. Ahora, la madera transparente se perfila como uno de los materiales sustitutos m\u00e1s prometedores del futuro.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00abLa madera transparente como material puede reemplazar los pl\u00e1sticos a base de petr\u00f3leo da\u00f1inos para el medio ambiente, como el polipropileno, el cloruro de polivinilo (PVC), el acr\u00edlico, el polietileno, etc.\u00bb, dijo Prodyut Dhar, autor del estudio y profesor asistente en la Escuela de ingenier\u00eda bioqu\u00edmica del Instituto Indio de Tecnolog\u00eda.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Originalmente fabricada en 1992 por el cient\u00edfico alem\u00e1n Siegfried Fink y desde entonces mejorada por otros investigadores, la madera transparente se fabrica eliminando el contenido de lignina en la madera y reemplaz\u00e1ndolo con materiales pl\u00e1sticos transparentes. La lignina es un biopol\u00edmero natural que sustenta el tejido vegetal; a diferencia de los pl\u00e1sticos, puede biodegradarse y no es t\u00f3xico.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00abLos pl\u00e1sticos se utilizan como sustituto del vidrio, que es (naturalmente) fr\u00e1gil. Sin embargo, la madera transparente es una alternativa a\u00fan mejor desde una perspectiva ecol\u00f3gica, como se observa en nuestro an\u00e1lisis del ciclo de vida\u00bb, dijo Dhar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Seg\u00fan los autores, la producci\u00f3n de madera transparente utilizando clorito de sodio para eliminar la lignina de la madera e infiltr\u00e1ndola con epoxi tuvo un impacto ambiental mucho menor que los m\u00e9todos com\u00fanmente utilizados que se basan en el uso de pol\u00edmero de metacrilato.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">El an\u00e1lisis del final de la vida \u00fatil sugiere que la madera transparente es menos ecol\u00f3gica que el vidrio, pero sigue siendo mejor que producir polietileno, lo que indica la necesidad de mejorar la tecnolog\u00eda de producci\u00f3n, dijeron los autores.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Anish M. Chathoth, profesor asistente en la Facultad de Silvicultura de la Universidad Agr\u00edcola de Kerala, en India, e investigador de madera transparente en el Instituto de Ciencia y Tecnolog\u00eda de la Madera, Bangalore, dijo que la fabricaci\u00f3n de madera transparente ha generado mucho inter\u00e9s recientemente debido a sus favorables propiedades f\u00edsicas, mec\u00e1nicas y \u00f3pticas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00abLa madera transparente se desarrolla principalmente utilizando l\u00e1minas finas de madera y tiene una buena resistencia como la de la madera normal, pero es m\u00e1s liviana.
