La acumulaci\u00f3n de polvo es perjudicial para los elementos \u00f3pticos, los dispositivos electr\u00f3nicos y los sistemas mec\u00e1nicos, y es un problema importante en las misiones espaciales y el despliegue de energ\u00edas renovables.<!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ahora, investigadores de la Universidad de Texas en Austin, junto con la empresa Smart Material Solutions, con sede en Carolina del Norte, han desarrollado un nuevo m\u00e9todo para evitar que el polvo se adhiera a las superficies. Seg\u00fan el equipo, la nueva tecnolog\u00eda puede hacer resistentes al polvo muchos tipos de materiales, desde naves espaciales a paneles solares o ventanas dom\u00e9sticas.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lo que hemos demostrado aqu\u00ed es una superficie que puede limpiarse a s\u00ed misma. Las part\u00edculas no son capaces de adherirse a la superficie, por lo que se desprenden utilizando s\u00f3lo la fuerza de la gravedad.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><cite>Chih-Hao Chang, Escuela de Ingenier\u00eda Cockrell<\/cite><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Seg\u00fan los investigadores, el descubrimiento\u00a0<strong>afecta esencialmente a cosas que el ojo humano no puede ver<\/strong>. En los experimentos, el equipo modific\u00f3 la geometr\u00eda de las superficies planas para producir una red a nanoescala muy compacta de estructuras piramidales. Estas estructuras afiladas y angulosas dificultan la adhesi\u00f3n al material. En su lugar, se adhieren unas a otras y ruedan fuera del material por efecto de la gravedad.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Estas estructuras\u00a0<strong>no requieren energ\u00eda ni materiales adicionales para eliminar el polvo<\/strong>. Comp\u00e1relo con soluciones m\u00e1s activas, como el parabrisas de un coche, que requiere el uso de limpiaparabrisas y l\u00edquido limpiaparabrisas para eliminar el polvo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Aunque la tecnolog\u00eda antipolvo existe desde hace d\u00e9cadas, no ha tenido mucho \u00e9xito fuera del laboratorio debido a los problemas de escala. En este \u00faltimo estudio, los investigadores utilizaron los conceptos de fabricaci\u00f3n denominados nano-recubrimiento y nanoimpresi\u00f3n, que imprimen patrones en objetos en una versi\u00f3n modernizada de la forma en que se produc\u00edan en serie peri\u00f3dicos y fotograf\u00edas durante el siglo XIX.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Durante las pruebas, los investigadores amontonaron polvo lunar sobre las superficies dise\u00f1adas y las pusieron boca abajo. Comprobaron que s\u00f3lo un 2% de la superficie permanec\u00eda polvorienta, frente a m\u00e1s del 35% de una superficie similar pero lisa<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Dado que la investigaci\u00f3n se financi\u00f3 mediante una subvenci\u00f3n del programa de Investigaci\u00f3n para la Innovaci\u00f3n en Peque\u00f1as Empresas de la NASA,\u00a0<strong>las primeras aplicaciones se centran en la tecnolog\u00eda espacial<\/strong>. El polvo espacial es especialmente molesto por lo arriesgado que resulta todo en ese entorno. Adem\u00e1s, las condiciones hacen que limpiar el polvo sea todo un reto. El polvo caus\u00f3 estragos en las misiones Apolo y ha provocado fallos en los veh\u00edculos exploradores de Marte.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">No hay mucho que se pueda hacer con el polvo lunar en el espacio: se pega a todo y no hay forma de limpiarlo o rociarlo.
