La respuesta es s\u00ed.<\/p>\n<p>La ciencia, qu\u00e9 duda cabe, es cuesti\u00f3n de ingenio y creatividad. Los investigadores tratan de responder preguntas o superar nuevos desaf\u00edos gracias a su tes\u00f3n e imaginaci\u00f3n. De este modo, uno de los grandes retos del siglo XXI -contar con alternativas a los combustibles f\u00f3siles- est\u00e1 siendo abordado desde m\u00faltiples formas. Una de ellas es la de los biocombustibles. Tambi\u00e9n conocidos como biocarburantes, estas fuentes de energ\u00eda son unas de las l\u00edneas de investigaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s fruct\u00edferas de la biotecnolog\u00eda. Y sin duda, a los biotecn\u00f3logos no les falta ingenio ni creatividad. En los \u00faltimos meses, hemos visto estudios en los que se produc\u00edan biocombustibles a partir de tequila, cactus, termitas marinas o incluso basura.<\/p>\n<p>Esta variedad de fuentes para fabricar biocarburantes responde a un nuevo paradigma, tambi\u00e9n llamado bioeconom\u00eda o simplemente econom\u00eda circular. En otras palabras, esta disciplina trata de aprovechar tanto materias primas como residuos para producir bienes y servicios. Siguiendo esa idea, las principales estaciones de Reino Unido se han unido recientemente para recoger posos de caf\u00e9 y fabricar con ellos biofuel.<\/p>\n<p>Pero los residuos de las cafeter\u00edas londinenses no son los \u00fanicos que pueden ser aprovechados en este gran reto energ\u00e9tico. Cient\u00edficos de la Universidad de Adelaida en Estados Unidos han estudiado la posibilidad de utilizar los residuos de las uvas para producir bioetanol. Y es que a veces no se trata (s\u00f3lo) de buscar ideas ingeniosas, sino simplemente de aprovechar lo que tenemos delante de nuestros ojos.<\/p>\n<p>Estos investigadores lograron utilizar restos de las uvas (como las pieles, las semillas o los tallos) para fabricar de manera competitiva biocombustibles. Su resultado parece bastante eficaz, pues a partir de una tonelada de residuos -anteriormente no aprovechados-, consiguieron 400 litros de bioetanol. Para situarnos, los restos de uvas que se desechan a nivel mundial alcanzan los 13 millones de toneladas anualmente.<\/p>\n<p>Seg\u00fan la cient\u00edfica Rachel Burton, \u201clos residuos de uvas presentan un gran potencial para ser aprovechados y transformados en biocombustibles\u201d. Y es que la mayor parte de az\u00facares presentes en estos restos son convertibles por fermentaci\u00f3n a etanol, y los que no pueden transformarse, podr\u00edan ser usados como fertilizantes o alimento de animales.<\/p>\n<p>En el futuro, los biocombustibles ser\u00e1n una de las alternativas que emplearemos en el transporte, producci\u00f3n de energ\u00eda el\u00e9ctrica o alumbrado.
