A\u00fan m\u00e1s importante, la ca\u00f1a de az\u00facar puede ser cultivada en tierras marginales que no permiten el crecimiento de buenas cosechas de cereales y soja.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En vez de campos con pozos de petr\u00f3leo, el equipo de Stephen Long, de la Universidad de Illinois en Urbana-Champaign, Estados Unidos, prev\u00e9 campos de plantas verdes produciendo biocombustible de forma sostenible y a perpetuidad, en tierras particularmente marginales y no apropiadas para la producci\u00f3n de alimentos.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En las pruebas realizadas durante el nuevo estudio, los investigadores, usando maquinaria exprimidora, extrajeron cerca del 90 por ciento del az\u00facar y el 60 por ciento del aceite de la planta; el jugo fue fermentado para producir etanol y m\u00e1s tarde fue tratado con disolventes org\u00e1nicos para recuperar el aceite.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Long y sus colaboradores consiguieron extraer aceite de dos de las variedades de ca\u00f1a de az\u00facar modificadas, en cantidades que son, respectivamente, un 67 por ciento y un 167 por ciento m\u00e1s grandes que las obtenibles en una ca\u00f1a de az\u00facar no modificada, respectivamente. La composici\u00f3n del aceite es comparable con la del obtenido de otras fuentes, como las algas que est\u00e1n siendo modificadas para producirlo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:
