Atajar sus emisiones es un asunto de vital importancia que muchos gobiernos y empresas no se toman con la suficiente seriedad. Quiz\u00e1 cambiaran de parecer si descubren que con esa contaminaci\u00f3n de CO2 pueden fabricar valiosas nanofibras de carbono.<\/p>\n<p>Las nanofibras de carbono son un material muy utilizado en electr\u00f3nica o para la fabricaci\u00f3n de bater\u00edas, pero no es especialmente barato de producir. La ventaja del m\u00e9todo propuesto por el profesor Stuart Licht, de la\u00a0Universidad George Washington\u00a0es revolucionario por varias razones. En primer lugar es sencillo y tremendamente barato. Tan solo necesita sal y la luz solar para generar algo de electricidad. De esto se desprende otra ventaja: no solo devora di\u00f3xido de carbono del aire, sino que no produce ning\u00fan otro contaminante. El investigador compara su t\u00e9cnica a \u201cextraer diamantes del cielo\u201d y explica:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Hemos encontrado la manera de usar el CO2 atmosf\u00e9rico para producir nanofibras de carbono de alto rendimiento. Este tipo de nanofibras se usan hoy en d\u00eda para fabricar compuestos de alta resistencia como los que se utilizan en aeron\u00e1utica, en equipamiento deportivo o en las aspas de las turbinas e\u00f3licas.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Licht acaba de presentar su m\u00e9todo en un evento de la\u00a0Sociedad Americana de Qu\u00edmica, y asegura que en una peque\u00f1a instalaci\u00f3n de la universidad ya est\u00e1n produciendo nanofibras de carbono a raz\u00f3n de 10 gramos a la hora.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-img\" src=\"http:\/\/otech.uaeh.edu.mx\/noti\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/1393881789247151018.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>El m\u00e9todo filtra el di\u00f3xido de carbono del aire y utiliza unos pocos vatios de energ\u00eda para transformar el di\u00f3xido de carbono en fibras de ese material en el extremo de un electrodo.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xddBxdHkErk\" width=\"800\" height=\"437\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>La t\u00e9cnica funciona, pero ahora falta afinarla para que las fibras sean m\u00e1s grandes y escalarla a nivel industrial. Licht asegura que si sus dispositivos cubrieran una superficie de unos 940.000 km cuadrados (la d\u00e9cima parte del desierto del Sahara) bastar\u00eda para atajar de forma dr\u00e1stica los niveles de CO2 en todo el planeta.<\/p>\n<p>El principal problema de esta t\u00e9cnica es que aplicarla a nivel industrial podr\u00eda tener un coste econ\u00f3mico demasiado elevado. A\u00fan no se ha podido calcular con precisi\u00f3n cu\u00e1nto costar\u00e1 una instalaci\u00f3n semejante, incluso aunque genere nanofibras de carbono.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; El CO2 es uno de los contaminantes m\u00e1s extendidos en nuestra atm\u00f3sfera.
