Las consecuencias incluyen un dolor intenso o incluso la par\u00e1lisis. No solo las personas, sino tambi\u00e9n los perros sufren a menudo esta enfermedad. Dado que los propios discos intervertebrales no pueden regenerarse, el material desplazado del disco afectado es retirado en una operaci\u00f3n que puede realizarse tanto en personas como en animales. Con dicha operaci\u00f3n, la presi\u00f3n sobre los nervios y la m\u00e9dula desaparece, pero contin\u00faa presente la inoperancia del disco.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Hay una gran esperanza depositada en la posibilidad de lograr una terapia con c\u00e9lulas madre capaz de solucionar este problema de la inoperancia. Las c\u00e9lulas madre son c\u00e9lulas multipotentes que pueden ser diferenciadas en varios tipos celulares.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Una terapia experimental con c\u00e9lulas madre que ha registrado \u00e9xitos prometedores recientemente es la ideada por el equipo de Frank Steffen, de la Universidad de Z\u00farich en Suiza.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/otech.uaeh.edu.mx\/noti\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_43881.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5665 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/otech.uaeh.edu.mx\/noti\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_43881.jpg\" alt=\"img_43881\" width=\"456\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Steffen y sus colaboradores esperan que las c\u00e9lulas madre lleguen a formar nuevo cart\u00edlago del disco una vez inyectadas en el disco da\u00f1ado. Por ahora, los experimentos con tres perros pastores alemanes aquejados de ese problema demuestran que un tratamiento con las propias c\u00e9lulas madre del cuerpo es bien tolerado, lo cual es un primer paso importante.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Las investigaciones sobre la regeneraci\u00f3n de los discos intervertebrales se realizan frecuentemente usando ensayos con modelos animales. En la Cl\u00ednica para la Cirug\u00eda de Peque\u00f1os Animales, adscrita a la universidad antedicha, los investigadores han tomado una v\u00eda distinta: dado que tratan numerosos perros que espont\u00e1neamente sufren una hernia de disco cada a\u00f1o, han conseguido obtener importante informaci\u00f3n directa de animales que est\u00e1n realmente afectados por la enfermedad. Debido a la similitud en patolog\u00eda y en recorrido de la enfermedad, se supone que podr\u00e1n extraerse tambi\u00e9n conclusiones para el tratamiento de personas afectadas por
