{"id":6207,"date":"2017-07-05T12:07:38","date_gmt":"2017-07-05T18:07:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/otech.uaeh.edu.mx\/noti\/?p=6207"},"modified":"2017-07-05T12:07:38","modified_gmt":"2017-07-05T18:07:38","slug":"las-conchas-marinas-una-nueva-fuente-de-biomateriales-sostenibles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/otech.uaeh.edu.mx\/noti\/biotecnologia\/las-conchas-marinas-una-nueva-fuente-de-biomateriales-sostenibles\/","title":{"rendered":"Las conchas marinas, una nueva fuente de biomateriales sostenibles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cada a\u00f1o, la industria pesquera descarta m\u00e1s de 7 millones de toneladas de moluscos como residuos no deseados y la gran mayor\u00eda de estos dep\u00f3sitos son arrojados en vertederos o al mar.<!--more--> El doctor James Morris y un equipo de investigadores de CACHE del Real Instituto Belga de Ciencias Naturales est\u00e1n estudiando opciones ambientalmente y econ\u00f3micamente sostenibles para estos biomateriales.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/otech.uaeh.edu.mx\/noti\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/conchas-marinas-fuente-biomateriales-sostenibles_1041805810_132211237_667x375.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6208 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/otech.uaeh.edu.mx\/noti\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/conchas-marinas-fuente-biomateriales-sostenibles_1041805810_132211237_667x375.jpg\" alt=\"conchas-marinas-fuente-biomateriales-sostenibles_1041805810_132211237_667x375\" width=\"667\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Las industrias de la acuicultura y de los mariscos ven las conchas de moluscos como &#8216;desechos molestos&#8217; y en gran medida se descartan en vertederos&#8221;, lamenta el doctor Morris.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;No s\u00f3lo es una pr\u00e1ctica cara y ecol\u00f3gicamente perjudicial, es un colosal desperdicio de biomateriales potencialmente \u00fatiles&#8221;, afirma este investigador, que dar\u00e1 a conocer sus avances en la Reuni\u00f3n de 2017 de la Sociedad de Biolog\u00eda Experimental, que se celebra hasta el jueves en Gotemburgo, Suecia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Una de las aplicaciones m\u00e1s interesantes propuestas por Morris es el uso de conchas desechadas para restaurar los arrecifes de ostras da\u00f1ados y cultivar el crecimiento de nuevas ostras. La restauraci\u00f3n de estos arrecifes requiere poco dinero y esfuerzo, pero puede tener enormes ventajas ecol\u00f3gicas. &#8220;Las poblaciones de mariscos saludables pueden tener muchos beneficios para el medio ambiente: limpiar el agua, proporcionar una estructura compleja para otros organismos y tambi\u00e9n actuar como una estructura de protecci\u00f3n costera&#8221;, explica Morris.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00datiles para una econom\u00eda circular<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Las conchas de moluscos consisten en m\u00e1s del 95 por ciento de carbonato de calcio, que se utiliza en muchas aplicaciones agr\u00edcolas y de ingenier\u00eda. Las c\u00e1scaras trituradas se pueden esparcir en los campos de los granjeros para controlar la acidez del suelo o para alimentar a las gallinas ponedoras de huevos como un suplemento de calcio.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El carbonato de calcio es tambi\u00e9n un ingrediente com\u00fan en la mezcla de cemento y se ha encontrado un uso adicional en el tratamiento eficaz de aguas residuales. Desafortunadamente, la gran mayor\u00eda del carbonato de calcio del mundo proviene de miner\u00eda de piedra caliza ecol\u00f3gicamente da\u00f1ina e insostenible.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;La reutilizaci\u00f3n de los desechos de las c\u00e1scaras es un ejemplo perfecto de una econom\u00eda circular, sobre todo porque las c\u00e1scaras son un valioso biomaterial, no s\u00f3lo mejora la sostenibilidad de la industria de la acuicultura, sino que tambi\u00e9n puede proporcionar beneficios econ\u00f3micos secundarios a los moluscos y procesadores&#8221;, dice Morris.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Al investigar c\u00f3mo pueden actuar las conchas de los moluscos como una fuente secundaria de carbonato de calcio, Morris y su equipo esperan proporcionar una alternativa m\u00e1s sostenible a la piedra caliza de las minas y espera que su trabajo haga hincapi\u00e9 en el valor econ\u00f3mico de reciclar estas c\u00e1scaras desechadas para un uso nuevo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;El procedimiento adecuado para desechar residuos de conchas es en vertederos, lo que cuesta mucho dinero y puede ser una gran carga para los productores de mariscos y moluscos -dice Morris&#8211;.
