{"id":7170,"date":"2017-09-25T09:31:08","date_gmt":"2017-09-25T15:31:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/otech.uaeh.edu.mx\/noti\/?p=7170"},"modified":"2017-09-25T09:31:08","modified_gmt":"2017-09-25T15:31:08","slug":"quimicos-consiguen-modelar-aluminio-ultraligero-que-flota-en-el-agua","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/otech.uaeh.edu.mx\/noti\/ciencia\/quimicos-consiguen-modelar-aluminio-ultraligero-que-flota-en-el-agua\/","title":{"rendered":"Qu\u00edmicos consiguen modelar aluminio ultraligero, que flota en el agua"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Un modelo de ordenador ha determinado c\u00f3mo reestructurar el aluminio convencional para conseguir una forma cristalina ultraligera, que podr\u00eda incluso flotar en el agua.<!--more-->El qu\u00edmico Alexander Boldyrev de la Universidad Estatal de Utah, junto con Iliya Getmanskii, Vitaliy Koval, Rusian Minyaev y Vladimir Minkin de la Universidad Federal del Sur en Rostov-on Don, Rusia, publicaron este hallazgo en The Journal of Physical Chemistry C.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cEl enfoque de mis colegas para este desaf\u00edo fue muy innovador\u201d, dice Boldyrev, profesor del Departamento de Qu\u00edmica y Bioqu\u00edmica. \u201cEmpezaron con una rejilla cristalina conocida, en este caso, un diamante, y sustituyeron cada \u00e1tomo de carbono con un tetraedro de aluminio\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Los c\u00e1lculos del equipo confirmaron que esta estructura es una forma nueva, metaestable y ligera de aluminio cristal. Y para su asombro, tiene una densidad de s\u00f3lo 0,61 gramos por cent\u00edmetro c\u00fabico, en contraste con la densidad del aluminio convencional de 2,7 gramos por cent\u00edmetro c\u00fabico.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cEso significa que la nueva forma cristalizada flotar\u00e1 en el agua, que tiene una densidad de un gramo por cent\u00edmetro c\u00fabico\u201d, dice Boldyrev.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Esta propiedad abre todo un nuevo campo de aplicaciones posibles para este metal no magn\u00e9tico, resistent a la corrosi\u00f3n, abundante, relativamente barato y f\u00e1cil de producir.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cLos vuelos espaciales, la medicina, el cableado y piezas de automoci\u00f3n m\u00e1s ligeras y m\u00e1s eficientes en el consumo de combustible son algunas aplicaciones que vienen a la mente\u201d, dice Boldyrev. \u201cPor supuesto, es muy temprano para especular sobre c\u00f3mo este material podr\u00eda ser utilizado. Hay muchas inc\u00f3gnitas. Por una parte, no sabemos nada acerca de su fuerza\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sin embargo, dice, el descubrimiento revolucionario marca una nueva manera de abordar el dise\u00f1o del material. \u201cUn aspecto sorprendente de esta investigaci\u00f3n es el enfoque: el uso de una estructura conocida para dise\u00f1ar un nuevo material\u201d, dice Boldyrev. \u201cEste enfoque
