Amelia Nieto, liderada por la Dra. Ana Falc\u00f3n, que acaba de publicarse en la revista\u00a0<a title=\"PLOS Pathogens\" href=\"http:\/\/journals.plos.org\/plospathogens\/article?id=10.1371\/journal.ppat.1006650\" target=\"_blank\">PLOS Pathogens<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La gripe es particularmente peligrosa para los beb\u00e9s, los ancianos y las personas con problemas m\u00e9dicos subyacentes, aunque las personas sanas tambi\u00e9n pueden experimentar una infecci\u00f3n grave por este virus. En este sentido, es bien conocido que entre las m\u00faltiples cepas del virus de la gripe que circulan anualmente, algunas son m\u00e1s virulentas que otras. &#8220;Hasta ahora se hab\u00edan encontrado marcadores de la gravedad para cepas espec\u00edficas, pero no un marcador m\u00e1s general como \u00e9ste, que se aplica a m\u00faltiples cepas y resultar\u00eda m\u00e1s \u00fatil en la toma de decisiones cl\u00ednicas y en el dise\u00f1o de estrategias de prevenci\u00f3n&#8221;, explica Ana Falc\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/otech.uaeh.edu.mx\/noti\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/cnb-gripe-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7405 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/otech.uaeh.edu.mx\/noti\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/cnb-gripe-1.jpg\" alt=\"cnb-gripe-1\" width=\"500\" height=\"347\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Para identificar este marcador, los investigadores del CIBERES y del CNB-CSIC, en colaboraci\u00f3n con otras instituciones sanitarias y de investigaci\u00f3n, se centraron en los genomas virales defectuosos (DVGs, por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s). Estas mol\u00e9culas, que consisten en fragmentos de ARN viral con informaci\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica defectuosa, se encuentran en m\u00faltiples cepas del virus de la gripe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Trabajos anteriores suger\u00edan que los DVGs activan el sistema inmunol\u00f3gico en animales infectados, y podr\u00edan restringir la gravedad de la infecci\u00f3n por gripe, por lo que en este estudio los investigadores se centraron en probar si estas mol\u00e9culas servir\u00edan como un marcador general de la gravedad de la gripe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Se puso a prueba la validez de este marcador tanto en ratones infectados como en cultivos de c\u00e9lulas de tejido respiratorio humano con diferentes cepas del virus de la gripe A H1N1, el subtipo responsable de la pandemia de gripe de 2009. Los resultados obtenidos revelaron que las cepas que resultan en niveles m\u00e1s bajos de acumulaci\u00f3n de DVG en los cultivos celulares tambi\u00e9n produjeron una infecci\u00f3n m\u00e1s grave en los ratones.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El equipo de investigaci\u00f3n tambi\u00e9n analiz\u00f3 los genomas de virus aislados procedentes de muestras tomadas a personas que experimentaron una infecci\u00f3n severa o fallecieron por gripe durante la pandemia de &#8220;gripe porcina&#8221; de 2009 o brotes posteriores de gripe de caracter\u00edsticas similares. Encontraron que las cepas H1N1 que causaban s\u00edntomas severos ten\u00edan significativamente menos acumulaci\u00f3n de DVG que las cepas de gripe A muestreadas de personas que s\u00f3lo experimentaban s\u00edntomas leves.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En conjunto, estos resultados sugieren que los niveles bajos de DVGs pueden indicar un mayor riesgo de enfermedad grave en pacientes infectados con el virus de la gripe A.
