Durante el d\u00eda, la fijaci\u00f3n de CO2 y el metabolismo fotosint\u00e9tico se mantienen activos en cloroplastos de plantas mediante un mecanismo regulatorio en el que sistemas redox como las tiorredoxinas (TRXs) desempe\u00f1an un papel central.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Las TRXs cloroplast\u00eddicas utilizan ferredoxina (Fd) reducida por el flujo fotosint\u00e9tico de electrones, conectando as\u00ed la regulaci\u00f3n del metabolismo con la luz. Asimismo el cloroplasto dispone de NTRC, un sistema redox adicional exclusivo de organismos fotosint\u00e9ticos que, como ocurre en organismos heter\u00f3trofos, utiliza NADPH como fuente de poder reductor.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La fotos\u00edntesis genera inevitablemente especies oxidantes, como el per\u00f3xido de hidr\u00f3geno, que pueden ser nocivas. Por este motivo los cloroplastos disponen de sistemas protectores como las 2-Cys peroxirredoxinas (2CP), cuya actividad depende de NTRC por lo que se ha propuesto una funci\u00f3n antioxidante para esta enzima. No obstante estudios posteriores han mostrado la participaci\u00f3n de NTRC en procesos metab\u00f3licos regulados por TRXs, como lo son la s\u00edntesis de almid\u00f3n o de clorofilas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Estos resultados sugieren una profunda interrelaci\u00f3n entre los sistemas redox basados en Fd (TRXs) y NADPH (NTRC) y antioxidantes mediante un mecanismo cuya base molecular era desconocida.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Los autores de este estudio -todos investigadores del Instituto de Bioqu\u00edmica Vegetal y Fotos\u00edntesis (IBVF), centro mixto Universidad de Sevilla-CSIC, adscrito al Centro de Investigaciones Cient\u00edficas Isla de la Cartuja (cicCartuja)- demuestran que el funcionamiento del metabolismo fotosint\u00e9tico y su adaptaci\u00f3n a cambios impredecibles de intensidad lum\u00ednica dependen del balance redox de las peroxirredoxinas (2CP), que act\u00faan as\u00ed integrando los complejos sistemas de regulaci\u00f3n redox del cloroplasto.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Estos resultados -obtenidos en la especie modelo Arabidopsis thaliana- suponen un importante avance en el conocimiento de la fotos\u00edntesis, y sugieren nuevas aproximaciones biotecnol\u00f3gicas destinadas a incrementar tanto la tasa fotosint\u00e9tica de fijaci\u00f3n de CO2 como la consiguiente producci\u00f3n de materia org\u00e1nica.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Fuente:\u00a0<\/strong>BOT\u00c1NICA &#8211; U.
