Una nueva dataci\u00f3n de un antiguo documento indio, el manuscrito &#8216;Bakhshali&#8217;, indica que la primera referencia escrita del n\u00famero cero tiene alrededor<!--more--> de 1.600 a\u00f1os. \u00bfLo inventaron ellos?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hay quien dice que la idea de contar con un n\u00famero nulo se les ocurri\u00f3 a los griegos, pero que como no les encajaba en el marco aristot\u00e9lico matem\u00e1tico que manejaban descartaron su uso. Los chinos empezaron a manejarlo pronto, aunque lo representaban con un espacio vac\u00edo. Los mayas representaban con conchas de tortuga vac\u00edas. Todos ellos, por tanto, barajaban el concepto de la nada, s\u00ed. Pero no lo crearon.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Seg\u00fan los \u00faltimos hallazgos, fueron los hind\u00fas los primeros en formular el cero como un n\u00famero independiente, otorg\u00e1ndole un s\u00edmbolo propio. En un principio, eso s\u00ed, no era un c\u00edrculo sino un peque\u00f1o punto negro. Un punto clave en la historia de las matem\u00e1ticas, porque permit\u00eda operar con \u00e9l.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/otech.uaeh.edu.mx\/noti\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Captura-de-pantalla-2018-01-12-a-las-10.02.28-a.m.1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8335\" src=\"http:\/\/otech.uaeh.edu.mx\/noti\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Captura-de-pantalla-2018-01-12-a-las-10.02.28-a.m.1.png\" alt=\"Captura de pantalla 2018-01-12 a las 10.02.28 a.m.\" width=\"500\" height=\"264\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">De bautizarlo con el nombre &#8220;zero&#8221; (t\u00e9rmino italiano traducido al castellano como &#8216;cero&#8217;) se encarg\u00f3 unos cuantos a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s (all\u00e1 por 1202) el matem\u00e1tico Fibonacci. Lo tom\u00f3 prestado del \u00e1rabe &#8220;sifr&#8221;, que significa precisamente &#8216;vac\u00edo&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El manuscrito &#8216;Bakhsahli&#8217;, donde se recoge el origen del n\u00famero, no se qued\u00f3 en Asia. Este valioso documento escrito en corteza de abedul, un material de escritura previo al papel, fue traducido y usado por los mercaderes que comerciaban a lo largo de la ruta de la seda para sus c\u00e1lculos aritm\u00e9ticos.<\/p>\n<div id=\"smartIntxt\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Por su contenido hasta ahora se cre\u00eda que hab\u00eda sido escrito entre el a\u00f1o 800 y el 1200, pero el radiocarbono dice que data de unos 500 a\u00f1os antes, seg\u00fan investigadores de la biblioteca Bodleian de la Universidad de Oxford donde se conserva en la actualidad.<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Aunque a\u00fan no hay datos suficientes como para considerar que el misterio del nacimiento del cero est\u00e1 totalmente resuelto, lo que s\u00ed se sabe es que su nacimiento fue crucial en el sistema decimal sobre el que se sustent\u00f3 el \u00e1lgebra desarrollada en el siglo IX en Persia. Y, luego, para el desarrollo de la f\u00edsica.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Y tambi\u00e9n, claro, del c\u00f3digo binario de la inform\u00e1tica, que representa todos los n\u00fameros combinando el cero y el uno.
