Si a finales del a\u00f1o pasado un equipo de cient\u00edficos\u00a0equipaba diminutas part\u00edculas con nuevos f\u00e1rmacos<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">para eliminar selectivamente c\u00e9lulas tumorales, otro grupo de investigadores ha ido ahora un paso m\u00e1s all\u00e1 para desarrollar nanorrobots programados para rastrear y destruir tumores sin ayuda de ning\u00fan medicamento.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Estos expertos, de la Universidad Estatal de Arizona en Tempe, describen en un estudio publicado en \u2018Nature Biotechnology\u2019 c\u00f3mo han creado un sistema rob\u00f3tico de ADN aut\u00f3nomo para tratar de manera selectiva el c\u00e1ncer. Consiste, esencialmente, en una l\u00e1mina de material gen\u00e9tico enrollada sobre s\u00ed misma a modo de origami que transporta cuatro mol\u00e9culas de trombina, una enzima responsable de la coagulaci\u00f3n de la sangre.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El objetivo es que estos peque\u00f1os soldados biol\u00f3gicos viajen por el torrente sangu\u00edneo hasta el tumor y produzcan trombos en los vasos que lo alimentan para cortar el suministro de sangre. Al no recibir nutrientes ni ox\u00edgeno, las c\u00e9lulas malignas morir\u00edan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Aunque de momento solo se ha probado en animales, los resultados obtenidos han sido muy positivos. A las 24 horas de inyectar el complejo en roedores con melanoma, la interrupci\u00f3n de la circulaci\u00f3n sangu\u00ednea hab\u00eda da\u00f1ado el tejido tumoral y a los tres d\u00edas todos los vasos sangu\u00edneos ten\u00edan trombos. Este efecto provoc\u00f3 una regresi\u00f3n de los tumores primarios y la prevenci\u00f3n de la met\u00e1stasis. Los tumores llegaron a eliminarse totalmente en tres de los ocho ratones empleados en el ensayo. Todo ello de forma segura: no result\u00f3 da\u00f1ado ning\u00fan \u00f3rgano.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Los cient\u00edficos, que han trabajado en colaboraci\u00f3n con el\u00a0Centro Nacional de Nanociencia y Tecnolog\u00eda\u00a0de China, tambi\u00e9n demostraron la eficacia de los nanorrobots en roedores con c\u00e1ncer de pulm\u00f3n, de mama y de ovario, para luego hacer lo propio en cerdos enanos.<\/p>\n<div id=\"smartIntxt\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Destrucci\u00f3n selectiva<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Para actuar solo en c\u00e9lulas an\u00f3malas y no en las sanas, los nanorrobots llevan un fragmento de ADN de cadena sencilla o\u00a0apt\u00e1mero. Estas piezas se unen de forma espec\u00edfica a prote\u00ednas que se encuentran en las paredes de las c\u00e9lulas que forman los vasos sangu\u00edneos que alimentan los tumores, pero que no est\u00e1n presente en las saludables.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As\u00ed, una vez inyectado en el torrente sangu\u00edneo, este c\u00f3ctel molecular viaja hasta la zona afectada y se adhiere a las c\u00e9lulas de los capilares. Despu\u00e9s, segrega trombina para producir los tapones que detienen la circulaci\u00f3n sangu\u00ednea.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cEstamos mucho m\u00e1s cerca de las aplicaciones reales y m\u00e9dicas de esta tecnolog\u00eda\u201d,\u00a0ha asegurado el investigador Hao Yan, coautor del estudio. El m\u00e9todo puede utilizarse combinando diferentes agentes para erradicar eficazmente los tumores m\u00e1s agresivos.
