Una nueva investigaci\u00f3n ha descubierto c\u00f3mo retrasar e incluso revertir el envejecimiento celular.<\/h4>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\"chapeau\">\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">En el mecanismo de replicaci\u00f3n de ADN, existe un sistema de frenado que puede manipularse para alargar los tel\u00f3meros, de cuya longitud depende la duraci\u00f3n de la vida de las c\u00e9lulas. Pero es un arma de doble filo: tambi\u00e9n puede precipitar el c\u00e1ncer.<\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Una investigaci\u00f3n desarrollada en la Universidad Estatal de Arizona ha dado un paso crucial para retrasar el envejecimiento celular, conseguir tal vez la eterna juventud e incluso recuperar la juventud perdida. Los resultados se publican en The Embo Journal.<\/p>\n<p>El envejecimiento es un proceso de modificaciones morfol\u00f3gicas y fisiol\u00f3gicas que aparecen como consecuencia de la acci\u00f3n del tiempo sobre los seres vivos. Trae consigo una disminuci\u00f3n de la capacidad de adaptaci\u00f3n en cada uno de los \u00f3rganos, aparatos y sistemas, as\u00ed como de la capacidad de respuesta a los agentes lesivos \u00a0que inciden en el individuo. Muchas enfermedades, como ciertos tipos de demencia, enfermedades articulares, card\u00edacas y algunos tipos de c\u00e1ncer, est\u00e1n asociados al proceso de envejecimiento.<\/p>\n<p>El envejecimiento se produce como consecuencia de un proceso natural basado en la din\u00e1mica celular. Cada c\u00e9lula es la unidad morfol\u00f3gica y funcional de todo ser vivo. Rige su comportamiento siguiendo la informaci\u00f3n almacenada en el ADN, un \u00e1cido nucleico que contiene las instrucciones gen\u00e9ticas para el desarrollo y funcionamiento de los organismos vivos. El ADN se encarga tambi\u00e9n de la transmisi\u00f3n hereditaria de esta informaci\u00f3n. Los segmentos de ADN que llevan esta informaci\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica son los llamados genes.<\/p>\n<p>La mayor parte de la informaci\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica se acumula en los llamados cromosomas, unas estructuras altamente organizadas, formadas por ADN y prote\u00ednas, que contienen la mayor parte de la informaci\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica de un organismo.<\/p>\n<p>Los organismos as\u00ed formados crecen merced a la divisi\u00f3n celular, mediante la cual una c\u00e9lula inicial (c\u00e9lula madre) se divide para formar c\u00e9lulas hijas. Las c\u00e9lulas normales est\u00e1n programadas para un n\u00famero determinado de rondas divisionales.<\/p>\n<p>Cada cromosoma posee en sus extremos una serie de secuencias repetitivas denominadas tel\u00f3meros. Debido al mecanismo de replicaci\u00f3n del ADN de las c\u00e9lulas, los tel\u00f3meros se van acortando con las sucesivas divisiones, perturbando el buen funcionamiento celular.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Telomerasa salvadora<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>La disminuci\u00f3n de los tel\u00f3meros se retrasa naturalmente gracias a una enzima llamada telomerasa: de esta forma, las c\u00e9lulas prolongan naturalmente su vida. Sin embargo, cuando el tama\u00f1o de los tel\u00f3meros llega a un cierto l\u00edmite, se desencadenan mecanismos que conducen a la muerte celular: la longitud de los tel\u00f3meros constituye as\u00ed una especie de reloj gen\u00e9tico que determina el tiempo de vida de las c\u00e9lulas.<\/p>\n<p>La telomerasa alarga los tel\u00f3meros al duplicar el ADN (sintetizar una copia id\u00e9ntica). \u00a0Lo que han descubierto estos investigadores es c\u00f3mo regula la telomerasa las sucesivas repeticiones de ADN telom\u00e9ricas. El descubrimiento tiene la capacidad de extender la vida humana y de mejorar la salud y el bienestar de las personas mayores.<\/p>\n<p>Al observar c\u00f3mo la telomerasa codifica una secuencia en el extremo de los cromosomas, \u00a0el equipo not\u00f3 algo nuevo: despu\u00e9s de cada secuencia, hay una se\u00f1al de pausa mientras se reinicia el ciclo. Y m\u00e1s sorprendente todav\u00eda: esa se\u00f1al de pausa permanece activa durante la siguiente secuencia.<\/p>\n<p>Es decir, dentro del proceso natural de replicaci\u00f3n existe la posibilidad de detenerlo. La telomerasa, explican los investigadores en un\u00a0<a class=\"liens\" title=\"https:\/\/asunow.asu.edu\/20180223-discoveries-asu-scientists-unveil-immortality-enzyme-telomerase\" href=\"https:\/\/asunow.asu.edu\/20180223-discoveries-asu-scientists-unveil-immortality-enzyme-telomerase\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">comunicado<\/a>, tiene integrado un sistema de frenado del que hasta ahora no se ten\u00eda noticia.<\/p>\n<p>La finalidad de este sistema de frenado es asegurar la s\u00edntesis precisa de las repeticiones de ADN telom\u00e9ricas, pero al mismo tiempo las limita.
