Si las revistas cient\u00edficas no ponen sus art\u00edculos a disposici\u00f3n de\u00a0todos<\/em>\u00a0, no queremos tener nada que ver con ellos.<\/p>\n

Esa es la esencia de\u00a0una petici\u00f3n\u00a0firmada por m\u00e1s de 2.000 investigadores de inteligencia artificial publicados en\u00a0un tweet el s\u00e1bado\u00a0.\u00a0Espec\u00edficamente, los cient\u00edficos est\u00e1n boicoteando una revista recientemente anunciada,\u00a0Nature Machine Intelligence<\/em>\u00a0, porque atrapar\u00eda los art\u00edculos publicados all\u00ed detr\u00e1s de un muro de pago.<\/p>\n

La investigaci\u00f3n de inteligencia artificial debe ser transparente y abierta a la comunidad en general, argumenta Tom Dietterich de la Oregon State University, el investigador de aprendizaje autom\u00e1tico que comenz\u00f3 el boicot,\u00a0seg\u00fan\u00a0Retraction Watch<\/em>\u00a0.<\/p>\n

Se ha hecho\u00a0un gran esfuerzo\u00a0para hacer que m\u00e1s revistas cient\u00edficas tengan acceso abierto.\u00a0Pero la transparencia y participaci\u00f3n que trae es especialmente importante para la inteligencia artificial.\u00a0La inteligencia artificial es inherentemente multidisciplinaria\u00a0\u00a0:\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0requiere ingenier\u00eda, matem\u00e1tica, inform\u00e1tica, ciencia cognitiva y muchas otras especialidades cient\u00edficas.\u00a0Tambi\u00e9n valioso: aportaciones de personas que utilizar\u00edan algoritmos de inteligencia artificial o que\u00a0pueden beneficiarse\u00a0de ellos.<\/p>\n

Esta es la raz\u00f3n por la cual muchos de los investigadores que firmaron el boicot, que incluyen expertos en IA de Google, Facebook, IBM, as\u00ed como prestigiosas universidades, a menudo optan por publicar su trabajo en\u00a0archivos p\u00fablicos como arXiv\u00a0, donde todos pueden ver su trabajo.<\/p>\n

Nature Machine Intelligence<\/em>\u00a0respondi\u00f3 a la petici\u00f3n aceptando que el acceso abierto tiene su lugar, pero tambi\u00e9n\u00a0defiende su modelo de negocio\u00a0.\u00a0Despu\u00e9s de todo, otras revistas piden a\u00a0los propios investigadores<\/em>\u00a0que paguen por publicar un art\u00edculo.\u00a0Y muchas revistas de acceso abierto no son tan quisquillosas con algunos de los art\u00edculos que publican, lo que a la larga perjudica el campo.<\/p>\n

Pero el objetivo final del aprendizaje autom\u00e1tico es crear algoritmos con una\u00a0apariencia general de inteligencia de\u00a0gran beneficio\u00a0.\u00a0El acceso irrestricto a investigaciones y algoritmos de vanguardia es crucial.\u00a0La inteligencia artificial puede hacer algunas cosas realmente geniales, pero sin colaboraci\u00f3n y transparencia, el campo no florecer\u00e1.<\/p>\n

Tener un grupo de equipos que trabajen en aislamiento detr\u00e1s de los muros de pago no es lo peor del mundo.\u00a0Pero en realidad no coincide con los sue\u00f1os de las personas de lo que AI deber\u00eda hacer en el futuro.\u00a0Y puede retrasar la rapidez con la que podemos llegar all\u00ed.<\/p>\n
